“The Basis for Defending All Human Life” Series

Different people often have different reasons for defending human life—specifically,  of course, the unborn.  For some, it’s a personal experience that converted them.  Perhaps they had an abortion and now regret it.  Maybe they are an abortion survivor or had a sibling aborted.  For others, it just makes sense that human life begins at the beginning, and it just makes sense that every human life is precious and worthy of protection.

Of course, you also have your pro-lifers with a heightened sense of justice who would like to ensure that the world is a place where justice is equally enforced.  Others are drawn to the underdog or the innocent and have a passion to speak up for the voiceless.  Some believe that abortion is the civil rights issue of our day and feel a responsibility to take a stand.  There is a countless myriad of reasons why people defend human life.

Report Cites 20% of Planned Parenthood Affiliates for Financial Irregularities

A little-known current fact about Planned Parenthood is that 20% of their affiliates nationwide are under investigation for “financial irregularities.”  This data is based on state and federal audits of Planned Parenthood and is found in a report recently put together by the Alliance Defense Fund.  We can thank our biased media for failing to make this a big news story.

The report alleges, from evidence in the audits, that Planned Parenthood has made numerous financial errors, very likely constituting fraud.  Planned Parenthood is accused of taking millions of dollars in extra state and federal funds through overpayments.

For instance, a 2008 New Jersey audit found that:

the overpayment occurred in part because “many” family planning clinics (“especially Planned Parenthood providers”) improperly billed all services as family planning, and eligible for 90-percent Federal funding.

Also, a 2008 New York audit discovered that:

New York improperly received enhanced ninety-percent federal reimbursement for 102 out of 119 sample claims. Of these, 96 were for services unrelated to family planning, and 33 were for services for which no reimbursement was available -including twenty-seven abortion procedures, and four services performed in conjunction with an abortion. HHS-OIG found that one provider was responsible for twenty-five of the twenty-seven abortion claims; this provider billed at least 3,900 abortion claims during the audit period.

Huffington Post Writer: Caring About Someone Else’s Baby Isn’t Christian But Creepy

Joining other ultra-liberals like Tosh.O’s star Daniel Tosh, is the Huffington Post’s Gavin Schulman.  Apparently, making light of abortion and viewing it as comedy is now the cool thing to do.  This morning, I was appalled to find an article defending abortion on Huff Post’s comedy page.  Cause yeah, people, abortion really is comedy central.

Mr. Schulman’s favorite line in his oh-so-funny article appears to be “who cares?”  Who cares about abortion?  It’s not a big deal. I mean, come on, Americans…stop giving a rip about anyone else’s baby besides your own!  Those babies who are starving to death in Africa…stop caring!  Those babies who are being killed in India just because they’re girls…stop caring!  Those babies who are being aborted in the U.S. and around the world…stop caring!

Mr. Schulman demonstrates his abhorrent lack of care for basic human decency with this toxic paragraph:

Plus, they’re just babies. It’s not like they can do anything. They can’t even walk. They just sit there and gurgle. What good does that do anyone? And even worse, they’re other people’s babies. Isn’t that the most obnoxious kind? Who actually cares about someone else’s baby? That’s not Christian, it’s creepy. That’s not protective, it’s perverse. That’s not righteous, it’s wrong. And weird. No one should take that keen an interest in someone else’s baby. You should bop them on the nose, take a picture, and go about your day.

Whether it’s written as comedy or as a true belief, it is NOT FUNNY in the absolute least to say that people who cannot walk don’t do anyone else any good.  My husband’s best friend has a little boy who can’t walk.  I know for a fact that he does this world a WHOLE LOT of good.

Check Out These Pro-Life Songs

Sometimes, pro-life songs (or other media, for that matter) are few and far between.  But the ones that do exist are quite powerful.  Several musicians have come up with unique ways to present the pro-life message.  A song can often do what mere words cannot.  Below I share some of my favorites as well as some new songs I have recently been introduced to.  I don’t share them all here, but I was shocked at the number of songs about men who wish their girlfriends hadn’t aborted their child.

Let’s all be encouraged to use our particular talent–whatever it is–to spread the message far and wide!

Just Another Birthday—Casting Crowns

Can I Live?–Nick Cannon  Lyrics  YouTube

This song is actually autobiographical.  Nick Cannon talks a bit about what his mom went through in her decision to keep him.  He thanks her for listening to him as a baby in the womb.

The American Media: Anything But Equal

The most convenient way to ignore a certain view is to pretend that the people who hold it don’t exist.  The next easiest way is to demonize the people who hold the view and portray them as so far from normal it’s not even funny.  The American media as a whole enjoys treating the pro-life view in this way.

Granted, a few good articles have been written about the pro-life issue or those who work on it.  Occasionally, a reporter will give a balanced—or even  a positive—review of the pro-life position.  But this is the exception, my friends, and not the rule.

One of the best examples highlighting the media bias against pro-lifers was recently written by New York Times Op-Ed Columnist, Ross Douthat.  In “The Media’s Abortion Blinders,” Mr. Douthat critiques the media’s blatantly unfair coverage of the Planned Parenthood/Komen fiasco that just unfolded.

Mr. Douthat refers to the “wave of frankly brutal coverage” and provides several examples.  Media sources who should be unbiased (you know, simply report the facts without inserting opinions) have most certainly not covered this situation with any sort of equity.  All pro-lifers ask for is equality; balance; fairness; an accurate assessment of the facts.  As we all know, there are plenty of activists on both sides of the issue who are more than willing to offer their opinions.  That is NOT the job of a news reporter.

Canadian MP Introduces Personhood Motion

Today, a Canadian MP (Member of Parliament) introduced a ground-breaking motion in the House of Commons “calling for Parliament to establish a special committee to consider when human life begins.”  Canada’s definition of human being currently includes only people who have been born.

Stephen Woodworth, the MP, has taken a courageous stand in the face of opposition.  Canada legalized abortion in 1969, and the current Prime Minister has decreed that there will be no debate on abortion in Parliament.

However, Mr. Woodworth has accurately noted that a judge in the Canadian judicial system basically asked Parliament to determine when human life begins.  In a quote reminiscent of an oft-remembered portion of Roe v. Wade, Justice Bertha Wilson wrote in 1988:   (R. v. Morgentaler)

The precise point in the development of the foetus at which the state’s interest in its protection becomes ‘compelling’ I leave to the informed judgement of the legislature which is in a position to receive guidance on the subject from all the relevant disciplines.

Despite the fact that this decision was handed down nearly 24 years ago, Parliament still has not come to a conclusion, based on scientific evidence, of when the state ought to protect an unborn child.  Many pro-life efforts by MPs have been stopped by those who support the abortion industry in Canada.

Introducing Women’s Rights Without Frontiers

“China’s One Child Policy causes more violence against women and girls than any other official policy on earth.  I call it China’s War on Women and Girls.”  So says Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers.  Watch the video I’ve posted below for more from Ms. Littlejohn.

Women’s Rights Without Frontiers is an international coalition formed to take a stand against forced abortions and sexual slavery in China.  As this organization so aptly words it, “Forced Abortion is Not a Choice.”  Even those who claim to be “pro-choice” should be able to get behind the mission of ending forced abortion in China and elsewhere.

However, the “pro-choice” movement sadly lacks individuals who are willing to do more than just make a statement that they don’t agree with forced abortions.  Where are all the hard core women’s rights activists when  the women in China need them?  Where are the “pro-choicers” who work to help mothers who choose to keep their children?  They’re nowhere to be found, as far as I can tell.  This, my friends, is the irony of the “pro-choice” movement…support a woman’s “choice” as long as she doesn’t keep her baby.  If she wants the baby to live, well then, she can go ahead and fend for herself.  Some choice this is!

Speaking of Desperation: Planned Parenthood’s Sinking Deeper

I think an eHarmony list can lend some insight into Planned Parenthood:  Planned Parenthood is desperate.  eHarmony has a list entitled, “Seven Signs of a Desperate Dater.”  As I read through the list, I noticed that it perfectly describes Planned Parenthood’s current state.  Tell me if you agree.

First, let’s define our terms, though.  (If you haven’t noticed yet, I happen to LOVE definitions.)  I also love words.  Words have definitions.  They are important.  So, desperation is “a state of despair, typically one that results in rash or extreme behavior.”  And to despair is “to be overcome by a sense of futility or defeat.”

Many people are currently predicting that abortion will end soon.  This means that Planned Parenthood will no longer be a valid organization, and our country will change for the better.  I happen to agree.  True justice and equality always make the world a better place.  True justice and equality include every innocent person getting the equal right to life.  But enough of my rabbit trail; let’s get to eHarmony’s list, as applied to Planned Parenthood.

The Odd Myth of “Reproductive Justice”

Losing movements change their slogans often.  The pro-abortion side continues to change their slogan.  It used to be “reproductive rights” or “reproductive choice”, but today, “reproductive justice” is beginning to surpass other slogans.  The pro-life movement has helped to awaken America to the fact that justice is more important than my rights and my choice.  Planned Parenthood and company know we’re succeeding, and so they’re trying to jump on the bandwagon.  Sorta.

Komen Foundation Will Stop Funding Planned Parenthood

For years, pro-lifers have spoken about the link between breast cancer and abortion while questioning the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s monetary grants to Planned Parenthood.  And for years, the Komen Foundation has continued to supply funds to the abortion giant. No Planned Parenthood

Today, things have changed.  This breaking news truly is a game changer.  The Associated Press reports,

The nation’s leading breast-cancer charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is halting its partnerships with Planned Parenthood affiliates – creating a bitter rift, linked to the abortion debate, between two iconic organizations that have assisted millions of women.

It’s about time a large pro-woman organization stood up to Planned Parenthood.  Komen granted $680,000 to Planned Parenthood last year and $580,000 the year before.  Though this is a large sum of money, it’s not a large percentage of Planned Parenthood’s overall income.   The biggest win for the pro-life movement here comes because Komen—a nationally recognized and well-loved organization—has disassociated themselves with Planned Parenthood.

So What’s the Problem With FACE?

I’m pretty positive that people need to eat food more than they “need” to get an abortion.  Yes, I’m sure of it.  I’m also pretty positive that before people can go almost anywhere, they need to put gas in their car.  But, there are no federal laws to prosecute people who block access to grocery stores, restaurants, or gas stations.  There’s just a law preventing people from blocking access to abortion clinics.

Planned Parenthood’s New Ad Campaign Speaks of Desperation

At a time when top pro-choice blogger Jill Filipovic tweets that “2011 was a really really REALLY bad year for abortion rights”, Casey Martinson, the Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes, writes that “the sky is falling” on Roe v. Wade, and Cecile Richards cries about the “unprecedented attacks” and claims that legislators are “escalating their anti-women rhetoric as they try to outdo each other in their attacks on Planned Parenthood and women’s health,” Planned Parenthood has decided to change their ad campaign.  In their view, this is a step-up of sorts.

May I ask why Planned Parenthood finds it “cool” to be crude?  They’ve tossed privacy out the window, in a way, by finally admitting that their business really is all about sex and fixing any consequences it may bring.  Apparently, they find it laughable that they can make you forget all about what you did the night before through the use of a simple little pill.  They happily broadcast that they’re here to help you get sex whenever you want it, with little or no forethought…just like a friend with benefits.  After all, who could be a better friend than the one standing by waiting to help you kill your child?

This speaks of desperation.
