Pro-Life Hero Rick Santorum Pulls Off Stunning Finish in Iowa

As recently as three weeks ago Rick Santorum was polling in the single digits in Iowa. But last night he came within just eight votes of beating frontrunner Mitt Romney for first place in the Iowa Caucuses with 25% of the vote. To say this was an amazing upset would be an understatement.

Santorum has never shied away from promoting the cause of the unborn on the campaign trail in Iowa. He focused his speech at last year’s Values Voter Summit on his (successful) efforts to end partial-birth abortion while he was a U.S. Senator.

A CNN entrance poll shows that people who said abortion was their most important issue supported Santorum by a whopping 58%! Gov. Rick Perry came in second among these voters with 11%.

During his victory speech (he was narrowly leading the election returns at the time) he said: “What motivates me? The dignity of every human life.” He also spoke eloquently about his daughter Bella’s struggles with Trisomy 18. You can watch his entire speech here.

We can be certain that the sudden ascendency of Rick Santorum in Iowa will spook pro-abortion activists who will do everything in their power to tear down Santorum’s political chances in the coming critical weeks.

Humor Blog Jokes: “Siri Now Trying Way Too Hard To Help People Get Abortions”

We’ve been tracking the story about whether the Siri app is “pro-life” because before Apple updated their software it did a very poor job of directing people to abortion clinics when they asked it to (often directing them to pro-life pregnancy counseling centers instead).

Now one internet wag at the humor site Happy Place decided to create some photoshopped screenshots of Siri “trying way to hard to help people get abortions” even when they’re actually looking for something else:

Planned Parenthood Hosts Christmas Party For Democratic Women at Abortion Performing Center

Planned Parenthood has a special knack for making the Christmas Season creepy and disturbing.

Whether it’s selling “Celebrate Choice on Earth” Christmas Cards or offering gift certificates for free Christmas abortions, Planned Parenthood sure seems to have a special talent for sucking all the joy out of the holidays.

A blogger at BigGovernment noticed that this year various organizations comprised of democrat women are throwing a “Holiday Party” at Planned Parenthood’s massive 78,000 square foot abortion mega-plex in Houston, Texas.

The irony of celebrating Christmas (a holiday that for most Americans recalls the birth of Jesus Christ) at a location that regularly kills the unborn is too tragic to ignore. Plus it’s just creepy and disturbing.

Obama Admin Supporting Abortion Over Trafficking Victims

I was at yesterday’s Congressional oversight committee hearing which was convened to investigate top officials at the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department who chose to deny a grant allowing the US Catholic Bishops to help victims of human trafficking because the Catholic group refused to refer victims to receive the “full range of gynecological services” (a euphemism for abortion and contraception).

One of the most powerful moments of the questioning period came when Congressman Chris Smith had his turn with the microphone. As he explained at the hearing, he was the original author of the legislation (Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 or TVPA) that created the HHS grant program to provide resources to organizations (such as the US Bishops) who run programs that help victims of human trafficking. He was outraged to discover that in the most recent round of grants pro-abortion political appointees at HHS had effectively injected a pro-abortion litmus test which bars pro-life organizations and NGOs from receiving grant money.

In an opinion article he published at LifeNews, Congressman Smith writes:

Why go through the charade of determining whether or not a grant application is meritorious when preferential treatment is afforded only to those in sync with President Obama’s abortion promoting agenda?

The bottom line is this: pernicious pro-abortion favoritism, embedded in this egregiously flawed process, does a grave disservice to the victims of trafficking. Victims deserve better. The women and children who have been exploited by modern day slavery need our help, which is why I wrote the law in the first place.

He couldn’t be more right that “Victims deserve better”! As LiveAction has shown with documentation time and time again, pro-abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood are eager to aid and abet the perpetrators of sex-trafficking, putting their victims in even more danger.

Pro-Life Nurse Asked to Assist Abortion Told: “You just have to catch the baby’s head. Don’t worry, it’s already dead.”

As we’ve reported, a dozen pro-life nurses in New Jersey are fighting for their right to follow their conscience and not be forced to assist at abortions.

This quote in The Washington Post by one of the nurses stopped me in my tracks when I read it:

One of the nurses, Fe Esperanza R. Vinoya, said a manager told her: “‘You just have to catch the baby’s head. Don’t worry, it’s already dead.’ ”

Can you imagine anything more horrific than being forced to “catch” a dead baby’s head? A baby who only minutes before was alive in its mother’s womb?

Pro-abort writers and bloggers are hysterically (I don’t use the word lightly) attempting to attack these women’s motives.

Here’s just a sample of mockery by Erin Ryan of the feminist blog Jezebel:

“From the way the complaint describes it, you’d think they were being ordered to line babies up and shoot them with a crossbow in front of their children.”

I won’t even repeat some of the other things I’ve seen written about these pro-life nurses.

Is Siri, Apple’s Must-Have iPhone App, Pro-Life?

Pro-abortion bloggers are fuming over the fact that Apple’s newest and hottest iPhone app, Siri, apparently will not tell you where the nearest abortion clinic is.

Instead, the app often points women to pro-life pregnancy resource centers!

First, some quick background: Siri, available on Apple’s iPhone 4S, is an advanced voice-recognition app which, among other things, allows you to ask your phone to find things for you simply by asking the question. Hungry for Pizza? Just ask Siri.

The Washington Post calls Siri “The must-have Christmas gift.”

Now, the tech blog Gizmodo reports what pro-abortion users of the app have discovered — Siri doesn’t serve up abortion results:

If you ask Siri for an abortion clinic in New York City, it will tell you “Sorry, I couldn’t find any abortion clinics.” A simple Google web search—which Siri itself uses to find results—gives you seven to start with, some within walking distance of where I’m located. Apparently, women across the country are having similar experiences.

Horrible: Australian Hospital Kills “Wrong” Twin in Abortion, Now Both Babies Dead

I’ve written before about the horrible practice of “toin coss” abortions, where one healthy twin is aborted because (for whatever unacceptable reason) the mother does not want to have two babies born.

In a shocking story from Australia, a healthy 32-week twin was “accidentally” aborted when doctors mistakenly killed the healthy twin when they were attempting to abort the sick twin, as the Australian Herald Sun paper reports:

A Victorian mother, pregnant with twin boys she had already named, had made the agonising decision to abort one of the babies on doctors’ advice.

She had been told that one twin had a congenital heart defect that would require years of operations, if he survived at all.

An ultrasound clinician had checked the healthy baby, who was in a separate sac to the sick baby, before the termination.

But just after 2.30pm on Tuesday the wrong baby was injected, terminating the healthy pregnancy.

The mother then had an emergency caesarean section and the sick child was terminated in a three-hour operation.

The hospital has announced there will be an “investigation” into what went wrong. But obviously what went wrong is that doctors suggested to the mother that she abort one of her twins. The hospital in a statement called the mistake a “terrible tragedy” but how would they have described the outcome if the doctors had made the right choice about which child to abort? Would that be a “resounding success”?!

Ad Agencies Work to “Rebrand Girls” As Awareness of Sex-Selective Abortions Rise

In the past couple years more and more people are coming to realize that abortion is a sexist phenomenon that disproportionally targets girls for death before they are even born.

The Economist wrote in 2010 about “The Worldwide War on Baby Girls” and this summer the Wall Street Journal published an article (“The War on Girls“) reviewing a book on the subject, which among other things, pointed to the fact that since the late 1970’s over 160 million female baby girls have been aborted by parents seeking sons.

All of this attention has generated a wave of popular media comment on the subject, which has also increased interest in research papers showing just how prevalent this awful practice has become, especially in developing nations such as China.

Now the tech magazine Fast Company has reacted to all of this with a media campaign entitled “The Birth of An Idea: Ads to Rebrand Girls“:

Fast Company asked several of the most creative ad agencies in the world to rebrand baby girls. Their mock campaigns recast girls as the No. 1 choice for consumers from China to the U.S.

Now obviously treating unborn baby girls as a “commodity” to be “consumed” is deeply offensive to human dignity – male and female alike. And some of the promotional ads are in very poor taste. But the core concept: that women face discrimination in the womb and in countries which allow them to be targeted for abortion is a sound one.

In the fight to achieve full human dignity for all human persons, male, female, born and unborn, we may come across surprising allies and among them, yes, even ad agencies. Welcome to the true pro-woman movement!

Amazing Video: Yale Scientist Visualizes Conception to Birth

From the Open Culture intro:

Alexander Tsiaras has made a career of using advances in visualization technology to offer vivid tours of the human body. His books have taken readers inside the human heart, the kidneys and vascular system, and also human reproduction. Back in 2002, Tsiaras published From Conception to Birth: A Life Unfolds, a book that offers a “visual diary of fetal development.” Now, nearly a decade later, he brings that visual diary to video at a conference affiliated with TED.

What’s more amazing is how he describes what he’s learned from doing these complex visualizations. Twice he talks about the “divinity” of the process of human development, and about how, even as a mathematician, the extraordinary complexity of human development is many orders of magnitude more than he can comprehend. The video is amazing and is certainly worth sharing with friends and on Facebook/Twitter:

Probe Alleges White House Broke the Law Lobbying For Kenyan Pro-Abortion Constitution

I wrote earlier this week about how U.S. taxpayers are being forced to foot the bill to fund pro-abortion groups overseas to the tune of $700 million.

Now an investigation by the Government Accountability Office alleges that the Obama Administration illegally used $18 million to help force Kenya to adopt a pro-abortion Constitution:

The investigation by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the investigative arm of Congress, shows at least one Obama grantee openly pushed to expand abortion in Kenya despite a long-standing, annually renewed law that prohibits U.S. tax dollars from being used to lobby for or against abortion in other countries (known as the Siljander Amendment).

The GAO report also reveals that a key Obama official stonewalled investigators and refused to cooperate with the GAO in its investigation of the activities initiated by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Department during the 2010 constitutional referendum in Kenya. Newly-Released Documents Show DOJ Official Knew Health Care Reform Abortion Agreement Was a Sham

Efforts by the watchdog group Judicial Watch to demand that Justice Elena Kagan recuse herself when the Affordable Care Act (Health Care Reform) is brought before the Supreme Court later this year resulted in the release of emails between Kagan (back when she was Solicitor General) and a top Department of Justice official which, unsurprisingly, confirm what pro-lifers have been saying all along about the phony agreement which Democrats have claimed prevented health care reform from creating new abortion funding streams.

$700 Million in Funding for Overseas Pro-Abortion Groups Could Be Redirected

From a pro-life United Nations watchdog blog:

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) introduced an amendment today that will prohibit U.S. foreign assistance from flowing to any international clinic that performs or promotes abortion. The amendment (SA934) was attached to the minibus bill, H.R. 2354 that pertains to appropriations for the State/Foreign Operations, Energy and Water, and Financial Services.

… Foreign assistance for family planning was $600 million last year. The proposed amount in the Senate bill for 2012 is $700 million. If the Hatch amendment were to pass, restoring the Mexico City policy, it would prevent millions of dollars from flowing to [non-government organizations]’s that advocate for widespread access to abortion and population control activities in poor countries. [Turtle Bay and Beyond]

Why again, in these difficult economic times, are we sending an additional $100 million in taxpayer money to overseas abortionists on top of the $600 million we already send them? I’m glad Senator Hatch introduced this amendment and I hope it passes with strong support (unfortunately, such an outcome is unlikely considering how pro-abortion the U.S. Senate is right now). Still, we should check to see where our Senators stand on the amendment.
