Live Action and Lila Rose, Stand Up For Religious Freedom

For Immediate Release:

March 21st, 2012 —  Live Action will join concerned Americans across the nation on Friday March 23rd, 2012 to voice opposition to the Health and Human Services mandate under the Obama Administration. People in over 100 cities and towns across America will stand up against the HHS mandate on Friday, which is working to force religious institutions to offer contraception, sterilizations, and abortion-inducing drugs to their employees and students.

The Rally for Religious Freedom will take place on Friday, March 23 from Noon to 1 p.m., in front of the HHS Building, 200 Independence Ave. SW, Washington DC. Live Action President Lila Rose will address the rally.

Live Action President Rose says, “On Friday, Americans all across the nation are standing up against an unjust attack on religious liberty, on pro-life Americans, and on the most vulnerable Americans – our unborn children. This is not only an attack on people of faith and conscience, this is an assault on every American’s freedom. Our government has already failed to protect the right to life of its most vulnerable citizens – the unborn. Now they are stripping away the freedom of born citizens, and forcing our companies to purchase insurance coverage of abortifacient drugs that kill.”

She continues, “The Obama administration is joined by a vicious abortion lobby- especially abortion giant Planned Parenthood- in this unjust attempt to force abortifacients, contraception, and sterilization coverage on all of us. This war against liberty and life must end. This mandate is an outrage and we will not comply.”

California Representative Dr. Linda Halderman

This week California state representative Dr. Linda Halderman blasted Senate Bill 1501 which was introduced by Sen. Christine Kehoe, (D-San Diego). The bill will permit non-doctors such as midwives and physicians assistants to perform surgical termination procedures.  Pro-life representative Dr. Halderman shared her concerns about the bill in an almost 30 minute radio appearance on the Ray Appleton radio program. You can hear the audio here. The Ray Appleton show is one of the most listened to talk programs in central California.

Lila Rose Statement on Komen/Planned Parenthood Funding Controversy

Lila Rose
Live Action President Lila Rose

“In the wake of the efforts by Komen to ensure grant money goes only to affiliates that actually perform mammograms (Planned Parenthood does not), the last few days have revealed the ugly extent that abortion giant Planned Parenthood and their allies will go to exert control over anyone who threatens their funding and image.

We continue to urge Komen to remain steadfast and stop funding Planned Parenthood, as they are the largest abortion provider in the US, under both federal and state investigation, provides no mammography services at any of their clinics, and have been documented covering up child sexual abuse and sex trafficking. The Susan G. Komen Foundation is the most  influential breast cancer foundation in America and should distance themselves from an organization that cares more about abortion than women’s health and well-being.”

BREAKING: New statement from Komen

Tom Benning at the Dallas Morning News is reporting that Komen for the Cure has  released the following statement from Nancy Brinker and the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors:

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

It is our hope and we believe it is time for everyone involved to pause, slow down and reflect on how grants can most effectively and directly be administered without controversies that hurt the cause of women. We urge everyone who has participated in this conversation across the country over the last few days to help us move past this issue. We do not want our mission marred or affected by politics – anyone’s politics.

Starting this afternoon, we will have calls with our network and key supporters to refocus our attention on our mission and get back to doing our work. We ask for the public’s understanding and patience as we gather our Komen affiliates from around the country to determine how to move forward in the best interests of the women and people we serve.

We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days and we sincerely hope that these changes will be welcomed by those who have expressed their concern.

Live Action Applauds Komen Defunding of Planned Parenthood; Cites Investigations

In response to the news today that the Susan G Komen foundation has ended their financial grant contributions of nearly $700,000 annually to abortion chain Planned Parenthood, Live Action President Lila Rose made the following statement:

“We applaud Susan G. Komen for its pro-woman decision to end their financial support of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion chain. After a slew of scandals at Planned Parenthood, and the opening of a Congressional investigation, Komen is wise to distance itself from the corrupt abortion giant. In just the last year, Live Action’s undercover footage revealed Planned Parenthood workers in 7 clinics aiding and abetting the sex trafficking of young girls, and Planned Parenthood falsely claiming they provide mammograms to women. In reality, our undercover investigation revealed that not a single Planned Parenthood clinic even has the equipment to do a mammogram. Komen realizes that their money to detect, prevent, and cure breast cancer is better spent elsewhere.

“Planned Parenthood misleads women and the public about the services they provide; but it is clear that behind a thin veneer of “preventative services,” their real focus is abortion. In just the last year, Planned Parenthood was the leading abortion chain in the world, committing over 300,000 abortions, which now account for over 40% of its clinic revenue. Together, we stand with Komen and reject Planned Parenthood’s corruption and extreme abortion-first ideology.”

Not a joke… Planned Parenthood wants to be “your sexual fantasy”

Brought to you by Planned Parenthood of Northern New England which says they are running this new ad campaign online, on buses, and in local newspapers…

Jill Stanek has more on this in her post, “Planned Parenthood’s “cheeky” new ad campaign” which includes photos of some of the other ads like “we’re your friend with benefits” and “we’re your private area.”

Illinois Health Dept. Says Abortion Clinics Don’t Always Report All of Their Numbers

The following paragraph appeared in the Chicago Sun Times. The most significant part is emphasized.

Tom Schafer, deputy director of the state’s Office of Health Promotion, said Guttmacher has more time and leeway when an abortion provider is unresponsive. “I don’t want to question the accuracy of their numbers, but we don’t have the ability to estimate,” Schafer said. “We count actual procedures as reported to us.” He said the state counts abortions performed at about 26 facilities, in addition to those performed by between 95 and 140 individual physicians. He acknowledged that providers don’t always report all of their numbers.

This should be a reminder to all of us that often the controls and requirements for abortion reporting in the United States and elsewhere in the world ranges from mediocre to very poor.

They Have No Argument

Attacking Dog

Why is Planned Parenthood losing public support and funding? Well, instead of making a logical case for their receipt of taxpayer money, they are choosing to engage in a despicable attack on right-to-life advocates. Just four days ago Planned Parenthood affiliate chairman Richard Solomon wrote a piece filled with false stereotypes and accusations:

“The fight, then, isn’t really about abortion. It’s about controlling the sexuality of poor and middle-class women by punishing them if they dare to be sexually active and find themselves with an unintended pregnancy.”

How bizarre is that?

The reason why we speak up for the unborn children and want to defund Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in the U.S. is because we want to control the sexuality of poor people? Are you kidding me? If this is the great argument that they choose to wield against us then they are in a lot of trouble.

Planned Parenthood refuses to debate the justification of the actual act of abortion because they know they would lose. Instead they try to win with underhanded attacks on the motives and character of their opponents. It is despicable and dishonest tactic.

NOTE: Richard Solomon is chairman of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties, Inc.

NARAL Frets Of Forced Ultrasound Viewing That Isn’t Even Happening

ultrasound-14-weeks
Ultrasound at 14 weeks.

In an email sent earlier this week, by NARAL President Nancy Keenan wrote that one of her top fears was this:

More and more women seeking abortion care could be forced to view an ultrasound image – even if they don’t want to or if their doctor doesn’t recommend it.

This is funny because Planned Parenthood in many places REQUIRES an ultrasound before they will perform an abortion so that they have an idea about what size child they will be terminating. Will we soon see Keenan protesting this Planned Parenthood policy as a monstrous attack on women? I doubt it. In the various states with ultrasound requirements, women must be given an option to view, hardly the “forced” viewing that Keenan decries.

Keenan’s statement of “more and more women” implies that women right now are already forced to look at ultrasound images which is not the case in any state. So once again this shows how the pro-abortion lobby is willing to jump to extreme scare tactics all in an attempt to protect abortion and ensure that unborn children never get a chance to be seen by their mothers.

Planned Parenthood Says Their Political Spending Comes at Expense of Their Clinic, Education Programs

Vicki Cowart, president of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains told the Associated Press in an article published five days ago:

“Every dollar we’re spending on getting people out to vote is a dollar not spent for birth control or sex education or breast exams.”
