Botched Abortion Leads to Emergency Hysterectomy

According to Operation Rescue, abortionist James Pendergraft had his license revoked — again — after a grisly botched abortion left a woman unable to have children for the rest of her life.

After inadequately dilating Patient S.B.’s cervix for a D&E abortion, Pendergraft ruptured her uterus and shoved the pre-born baby’s body into the abdominal cavity. She was rushed to the hospital where she received an emergency hysterectomy along with the removal of the dead fetus, which was missing an arm. The arm was later found at Pendergraft’s EPOC abortion clinic. His not reporting that he had removed the arm caused a delay in her care at the hospital as surgeons futilely attempted to locate the missing appendage.

This is the empowering, womanhood-affirming procedure supported by millions of men and women across the country. Anti-lifers who scream that we must keep abortion “safe and legal” obviously do not keep up with the careers of those “champions of women’s freedom,” the abortionists. Every week, Operation Rescue delivers at least one news story like the one above to my inbox, and every week I force myself to read the entire thing, every last grisly detail. It reminds me exactly what we are fighting.

Abortion is the single most common medical procedure in the world, and most people who support it have no idea what it actually is.

A little over three years ago, I was pro-choice. I didn’t really know why I was pro-choice; it just sort of came with the liberal starter kit. It was something you had to be, I thought, in order to call yourself enlightened, intelligent, and pro-human rights.

Thank God a pro-life friend cared enough about me to show me some very disturbing photos. Until then, I was completely ignorant of what abortion actually was. I probably thought about it — if I thought about it at all — as a clump of bloody tissue being washed down a drain.

I thought of abortion as an empowering thing, as though women skipped out of their local Planned Parenthood and met the girls for brunch. I was not evil or bad, I was ignorant, completely ignorant of the truth.

The truth is in the story I posted above: abortion is tyranny over women by a multi-billion dollar industry. Abortion is a woman’s tyranny over her child by allowing it to be slaughtered within her. Abortion is suffering, death, destruction, and evil.

Those of us who know the truth have a responsibility to share it with others. If it hadn’t been for my friend braving my stubborn will and sharp tongue and sharing those photographs with me, I might be posting a very different blog on a pro-choice site today, perpetuating the lie, fueling the ignorance, and leading to further death and suffering.

Decide today to tell just one person the truth about abortion. The truth will set them free, and maybe even save a life.

Just when you start to feel discouraged, that the articles repetitively posted on facebook reminding people of the horrors of abortion, the reminders to friends, the job; counseling… just when I am feeling like it doesn't matter, that no one cares and that I am not making a difference; I read this. Thank you. I pray that I can help change friends minds, and show them the truth. I am thankful for your writing, and I am thankful for your friend.
