How Some Kids With A Van Are Changing The Pro-Life Movement

David Pomerantz

On March 13, in Dallas, TX, an organization you’ve probably never heard of is going to revolutionize the pro-life movement.

It starts with a kid from Philly, a bus in New York, and an idea that brought him quite by accident to the city where Roe v. Wade started — the city where he hopes abortion will finally meet its match.

David Pomerantz, 23, does not look like a pro-lifer or a practicing Christian. He looks like a vegan hipster with emo hair. As a matter of fact, he sort of is a vegan hipster with emo hair. If you visit his loft apartment in an industrial section of downtown Dallas, he will offer you fermented tea with organic honey. You can lounge in a beanbag chair and talk about art while he surfs his Macbook and plays indie music and talks about Jesus.

A polite, friendly young man with a laconic kid-from-nowhere accent and a direct blue gaze, David Pomerantz — “Dave” to his friends — does not jibe with the stereotypical image of the angry activist holding signs outside a clinic. And he doesn’t mind, because that’s not the kind of pro-life activist Dave is.

He hails from Philadelphia, but he was attending Word of Life, a two-year Bible institute in New York, when he met Chris Slattery and Julie Beyel of EMC (Expectant Mother Care), a Manhattan pregnancy resource center. He was astonished to find that EMC had formulated a “new model” for approaching women outside abortion clinics.

EMC had a bus equipped with a sonogram machine. By approaching women outside the clinic with the offer of free help, with no mention of a pro-life ideology, they were able to see a staggering success rate. In fact, by their estimate, about 70% of women who got on the bus for a sonogram decided not to abort. In one day, they saw nine women decide on life for their children.

They did some simple math, and realized that if this success continued, 15 to 25 women a week, or about 800 a year, would choose life.

Excited by the possibilities inherent in this new approach, Dave contacted his friend and mentor Joe Baker, who flew in from Philly to see the results firsthand. Equally impressed, the two began to ferment the idea that would become Save the Storks.

Dave was already planning on attending Southwestern Theological Seminary in Dallas, so he headed down south. With Joe Baker developing the art and marketing, and the generous help of Dallas-based organization Get Involved for Life and other private donors to bring to life a sleeker, smaller, more mobile ultrasound vehicle, they were off and running.

Save the Storks was born. Or, if you prefer, flown in through the window.

What People Of All Religions (And No Religion) Can Learn From Tebow’s Mom

Tim Tebow and his parents.

I am not a sports fan, so the first time Tim Tebow popped up on my radar was right before the 2010 Super Bowl, when I caught wind that Focus on the Family would be airing an ad during the game featuring Tebow and his mom. According to Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups, it was going to be a piece of blatant anti-choice propaganda pumped into our living rooms against our will that would make all our children Republicans and yadda yadda yadda.

When the ad finally aired, I was watching, and was… kinda disappointed. There was nothing even remotely controversial about it, and I do love me some controversy. Basically Tebow’s mom says Tim almost died in the womb and she’s really glad he didn’t. That’s it. I can’t think of anything less controversial than a mother saying she’s glad her baby was born, but these are strange times we live in.

14-Year-Old Girl Sues Family To Stop Abortion

A 14-year-old girl in Corpus Christi, TX, received a temporary restraining order on Dec. 21 to stop her family from forcing her to get an abortion. A state district judge appointed an attorney for the teen and extended the restraining order until Jan. 19, when a hearing will determine whether the order will remain in place for the duration of the girl’s pregnancy.

Thus far, the girl has been represented by Stephen Casey, an attorney for the Austin organization Texas Center for Defense of Life. Family members who appeared in court told the judge the teenage girl was mentally unstable and incapable of caring for a baby.

Casey claims the girl’s cousin is guilty of “assaulting her by grabbing her by the neck, hitting her across the jaw and threatening to beat her if she did not get an abortion.”

There are several disturbing things about this story. First and foremost, that her family members are trying to force her to kill her baby. Second, that the judge in the case has only protected her from these people for two weeks. Third, that the “pro-choice” blogs are staying very quiet about the case. So much for choice!

Lila Rose: Looking Back on 2011

Live Action president Lila Rose shares her thoughts about the past year of the pro-life movement. Live Action’s undercover videos released in February, showing Planned Parenthood aiding and abetting the trafficking of young girls, sparked national outcry and led to the first congressional vote on defunding the abortion business. In 2011, 61 million tax dollars were stripped from the organization.

Letter To A Young Abortion Clinic Worker

Editor’s Note: This post is not an actual letter from an abortion center to clinic workers but rather a creative presentation of the verbal gymnastics and abuses that have been documented to occur at various abortion centers across the country.

Dear __________,

Welcome, and congratulations on your new position at the clinic. You have a lot of learning ahead of you, so allow me to make the process easier by filling you in on a few things. This is all confidential, mind you.

First, you have no doubt noticed the protesters gathered outside. The activity you have seen is pretty typical; they mostly just pray and when they do approach a patient, it’s quiet and respectful. The orange-vested escorts we employ aren’t really necessary for the patients’ safety, but they are very necessary for our image. It’s important we continue to advance the fallacy that pro-lifers are violent, or at least unpredictable, despite the fact that the overwhelming majority are respectful and law-abiding.

Planting a Seed of Truth: Distributing The Advocate Person to Person

In my last post I talked about how you can distribute The Advocate to people in your community. Among the methods I listed, the person-to-person method is the most effective way to make sure someone is exposed to the life changing truth within The Advocate. Personal interaction can be challenging and intimidating so there are a couple of things you should keep in mind:

1. Location. Find a public place with lots of people. Open celebrations in the park, farmers’ markets, and college plazas are all good choices. Remember, if you are on public property – you have a right to be engaging in this protected first amendment activity.

2. Positioning. Place yourself at an intersection or corner with heavy foot traffic. Give yourself easy access to approach people who walk by, and be sure you are visible from a few yards away so you don’t startle anyone.

Turkeys, Human Babies: They’re All The Same To Us, Says PETA

Civilization has gotten away from itself.

I don’t know where to start, so I’ll start with the image: a Thanksgiving feast, with a baby as the main course.

PETA does this kind of thing to get attention, so it does irk me a bit to play into their grubby paws, but I can’t help myself.

The scariest part of it is, I used to think like they do. Today, I am a conservative Catholic pro-lifer. Not so long ago, I was a liberal agnostic pro-lifer. Before that, however, I was a radical atheist pro-choice vegan. I scoffed at those who would call themselves pro-life and still eat meat. I thought it was disgusting that we saw ourselves as any different from, or any better than, chickens and pigs and cows and turkeys. If someone at the table with me in a restaurant ordered veal or lamb, they became an instant enemy, and I would only speak to them to ask, “How’s your baby?” or “Is the dead infant meat tender enough for you, or should they have beaten it harder?”

Celeb-Turned-CEO Supports Texas Pro-Life Organization

Kathy Ireland

The Event

Today the Council for Life held its “Celebrating a Decade of Life” Luncheon at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas to mark ten years of providing much-needed funding for local pregnancy resource centers and other life-affirming organizations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The gathering of about a thousand people in the Chantilly Ballroom was their largest yet, and featured a luncheon, raffle, and keynote address by model-turned-mogul Kathy Ireland.

Council for Life was founded in 2001 by eleven women who wanted to “more proactively address the complex issues of crisis pregnancies” in Dallas and “change the heart of [their] city.” It is still without an office or a full-time staff, and relies on volunteers and donations to provide its vital support to area women.

What Do People Say After Watching an Abortion?

At HeresTheBlood.com, we host a video of an actual abortion with the vast majority of images and video coming from the 1st trimester. The video content is graphic so take that warning into consideration before viewing. We accept responses below the video at HeresTheBlood.com and here are the ten most recent:

  1. The Truth of abortion is the means to its end, it is so horrific that only by suppression of the truth has it been able to stand so long. Over 53 million killed in the US alone and twice that many  lives of parents devastated by its curse on their relationships, conscience, well being, dreams and future. It is time for us to Believe God and as one Church let His Light Shine upon this Darkness which can not stand in the Light of Christ. Who declares preborna are Children not Choices.God is calling All Believers  to end the slaughter and lift our Vote, Voice & Life  for Preborn Life.
  2. Horrific and true. i want to post this but i don’t think my circle of friends could handle it, i will download to have it handy when I meet someone who denies the reality of abortion as murder.
  3. HARD-HITTING — NEEDS TO BE VIRAL
  4. Thank you for this video. May God bless you and give you courage to do even more to save babies.
  5. How could any one do this to a helpless child. I can’t stop crying……
  6. I wanna know why the F YouTube has been dilligently censoring this video. I dont care if I gotta open up 100 accounts! This TRUTH will NOT be silenced!
  7. This is soooo heartbreaking but it needs to be seen. Hopefully someone considering abortion will see this and have their hearts and minds changed!!! Thank you for this!!!
  8. This is such a powerful message!
  9. Pro-choice and proud. 🙂
  10. So powerful. It hits me harder every time I see images like this, as the reality of what abortion is slowly chips away at the numbness that I’ve built up towards it. Abortion ends a human life. We cannot tolerate it. End of story.

The Girl On The Plane

I hate flying.

It’s not the airports, the traffic, the bag-checking, or even the shoe removal and full-body X-ray. That stuff is no fun, but I can tolerate it. I hate actually being in the air. Even though I’ve heard the statistic (“It’s safer than driving a car!”) a million times, what I call my “primitive monkey brain” kicks in as soon as I look at the plane. A tiny, primeval voice in my head says, “That is a building with wings, and buildings can’t fly.”

No matter how many times people try to explain it to me, using words like “propulsion” and “thrust” and “imbecile,” I still can’t wrap my brain around it. I feel certain that the plane I am about to board will be one of the rare ones that drops out of the sky like a stone.

I was sitting at DFW airport, after the car I was riding in had a flat and I had to be handed off to another family member in the pouring rain by the side of the freeway like a parcel of contraband. I bolted from the car at the terminal ten minutes before my flight was to depart, sprinted through security like a maniac, and screeched to a halt at the gate to find that my flight had been delayed an hour… then another hour… and then another.

Video: Youth Have A Passion For Their “Unborn Brothers And Sisters”

In this short video, a young man explains eloquently why more and more young people are flocking to the pro-life movement. Displaying a great deal more intelligence than many of the youth we’ve been seeing in the news lately, this young person accurately quotes the Declaration of Independence, which guarantees the right to Life, Liberty, and Property for all people. He also warns that allowing the slaughter of the unborn “opens the floodgates” to violating further rights, and not just for the unborn.

Watch the video here and share it with your friends.
