Chart: U.S. Abortion Rate Highest Among Non-Religious, Lowest with Evangelicals

The abortion rate is calculated by taking the unintended pregnancy rate (incidences of unintended pregnancy per 1000 women aged 15-44 years) times the percentage of unintended pregnancies that end in abortion.

Happy that we’re the lowest but VERY SAD that some would even consider choosing to end the life of their child. :( ((((

Mainstream protestant and evangelical Christian are considered separate “religions”? Now isn’t that interesting? Hmm. There are born-again or evangelical Christians across different Protestant denominations. There are even Catholics who call themselves born again, Jews who consider themselves Messianic Jews and Muslims who worship God through Jesus the Messiah, albeit in secret. They have fully committed their lives to Jesus Christ. They are all “evangelical Christians” in that sense.

I find it interesting they broke that out from the rest as well. I wonder why? All Catholic should consider themselves as born-again though. In the passage of the bible talking about being born-again, it is talking about Baptism, and all Catholics are Baptized…

The breakout is how the US Government CDC department decided to break it down. How they came to the separations that they did though is a question that only they can probably answer.

Useful data, but I have one minor correction to make. The abortion rate is simply the number of abortions divided by the number of women aged 15-44. This is then multiplied by 1000.

Never mind. I see from reading the report that it didn’t include abortion rates, so you had to derive those yourself. That is, the data is incomplete because it doesn’t include abortions for intended pregnancies (so the abortion rate for each group should be slightly higher).

Still, useful data as the comparisons should still hold. I’ll keep this as a helpful resource.

But since the the non-religious only make up around 15-20% of the population the numbers of Religious women getting abortions is far higher.
