Check Out These Pro-Life Songs

Sometimes, pro-life songs (or other media, for that matter) are few and far between.  But the ones that do exist are quite powerful.  Several musicians have come up with unique ways to present the pro-life message.  A song can often do what mere words cannot.  Below I share some of my favorites as well as some new songs I have recently been introduced to.  I don’t share them all here, but I was shocked at the number of songs about men who wish their girlfriends hadn’t aborted their child.

Let’s all be encouraged to use our particular talent–whatever it is–to spread the message far and wide!

Just Another Birthday—Casting Crowns

Can I Live?–Nick Cannon  Lyrics  YouTube

This song is actually autobiographical.  Nick Cannon talks a bit about what his mom went through in her decision to keep him.  He thanks her for listening to him as a baby in the womb.

Personhood–Tony Funderburk Listen Here

One of my personal favorites!  Make sure you un-mute the volume when you go to this site.

The Call—Matt Kennon  YouTube

An absolutely AMAZING song about how people are encouraged to choose life when we choose to be there for them.  One little action can make all the difference in the world.

Tears Fall—Barlow Girl

There Goes My Life—Kenny Chesney  Lyrics  YouTube

This is probably the oldest song I put on here…I was trying to find more modern ones.  But “There Goes My Life” is one of the best testimonies EVER of how an unplanned and unexpected child often becomes the very center of his or her parents’ hearts.  I LOVE this song!

Broken People—KJ-52  Lyrics  YouTube

Here’s one for all you rap fans out there!

feeling lost confused and a little damaged
she knew his life was the thing that matters
so he grows kind of like a seed that’s planted
it was hard but she always managed
even when the problems never seem to vanish
she looks at his fingers and the little hand prints
she might be broken but shes gonna manage

Con Una Estrella–Ricardo Arjona  YouTube

A Spanish song that talks about what an unborn child might become, if allowed to live.  Arjona personalizes his song as well.

In the Morning–Anika Moa  Lyrics  YouTube

I’m so lucky to have a great career
But after all the fuss I just wanted to have you
All I ever wanted is to be near a face
In the morning , in the morning
After the operation my heart will become erased
And I will miss you, I will miss you

I Would Die For That–Kellie Coffey  Lyrics  YouTube

A touching song from the perspective of a woman who wants to have a baby, but cannot.  Her friend got an abortion, and this song expresses how the woman would die to have the opportunity to give birth to a child that others would discard freely.

Life Inside You–Matthew West  Lyrics YouTube

Great song about how the pro-life issue isn’t only about saving babies from abortion, but also saving lives in other ways.

Lime Tree–Bright Eyes  Lyrics  YouTube

One of the MANY songs I found about a guy whose girlfriend or wife chooses an abortion without him having any say at all.  So sad.

I keep floating down the river but the ocean never comes
And since the operation I heard you’re breathing just for one
Now everything’s imaginary, especially what you love
You left another message said it’s done,
It’s done

Red Ragtop–Tim McGraw  Lyrics  YouTube

The one thing I don’t like about this song is that, while it makes it obvious that an abortion has lasting effects, it also makes it seem like you just have to choose to forget about it.  One lady commented on the song and said,

A very big decision was made 30 years ago and it’s natural for it to still be on our minds….I’ve realized I still love you and I wish I could give you what was yours and ours. Thanks Tim McGraw for touching on a very deep subject so many people have had to deal with that is such an emotional one. God will forgive the sins but we must try and find peace while dealing with the aftermath.

Sometimes Miracles Hide–Bruce Carroll  Lyrics  YouTube

A touching song about parents who choose to keep their “less than perfect” baby, despite the doctor’s advice.  You should definitely go listen to this one!

That’s Love–Ricochet  YouTube

A little known country song.  I love the line that says, “Her baby might not have a daddy, but at least he would be living.”

To Zion–Lauryn Hill  Lyrics YouTube

Woe this crazy circumstance
I knew his life deserved a chance
But everybody told me to be smart
Look at your career they said,
“Lauryn, baby use your head”
But instead I chose to use my heart

Lucy–Skillet  Lyrics

Matt Kennon–The Call

  • Jewels

Where is “Brick” by Ben Folds Five? BEST pro-life song EVER about the father not wanting the mother to abort, “Can’t you see? It’s not me you’re dyin’ for.”

  • Elaine

I don’t know if this song is specifically meant to be pro-life, but I’m not sure how else to interpret it when you read the lyrics.

another good song is Abortion is Murder, by P.O.D.

  • http://twitter.com/MarauderTheSN Marauder

I’m pleasantly surprised by how many of these songs are by people I’ve actually heard of; when I first saw the post’s title, I assumed they’d all be by Christian rock groups or something. :)

  • Freedom Red

“Carry The Blame” by River City People, a #13 hit in the UK back in 1989.

  • Panda

Nancy Jo Mann, the founder of WEBA, Women Exploited By Abortion, wrote a song, “If I Knew Then” many years ago. It’s very poignant.

  • Sam

“Happy Birthday” by Flipsyde should be on this list. It gives me shivers whenever I listen to it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=26801549 James Riley

What about “With Arms Wide Open” by Creed?

  • Ellen

“A Whisper & A Clamor” by Anberlin is good too, though more on the subtle side.

  • Jenn

Thrice’s “Don’t Tell and We Won’t Ask” is about the conscience-deafening justification of abortion: http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858488723/

East West has “Murderer” which is pretty hard rock: http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858511143/

Then there’s ChristCentric who just put out a great album “The Ephesians Project” where they rapped the ENTIRE book of Ephesians. They have “Fight For the Children” as one of the last tracks on the album. And it is IN DEPTH about abortion and its wrongs. You can download the track for free here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tv51y9bm9pqu2ag info on the track here: http://www.christcentric.net/links

  • Michael Doyle

Fr Stan Fortuna has a song “Never been born”

  • Mark Glembocki

I love you all for what you do!!!! — Keep up the great work! — Your website is my families homepage! – Mark Glembocki – Knights Of Columbus — + family of 5 (3 little impressionable minds who are fervent prolife!!!) —- Hope you all have a wonderful day!

I like “Unborn Angels” by Pots.

  • Robert Escobedo

Oceana(christian hardcore band) has some pro-life songs.
    Like:
    The Abortion Plan
    The Family Disease
    In Birth

  • Karo

I think that “lightening crashes” by Live is a pro-life song.  It seems to me tobe about how one woman has an abortion, one woman has a misscarriage, and the angels are sad and the irony in it

  • http://twitter.com/Jennie_Stone Jennie Stone

‘happy birthday’ by flipsyde is a really powerful one…  i’m glad nick cannon’s ‘can i live’ is on there.  that one made me cry.

Unborn Child by Seals and Croft(1974)(showing my age!)
“Oh, little baby, you’ll never cry,

Nor will you hear a sweet lullaby.

Oh, unborn child, if you only knew

Just what your momma is plannin’ to do.

Oh tiny bud that grows in the womb

only to be crushed before you can bloom

Momma stop! Turn around, go back, think it over!”

  • Rachel

One of my favorites is “Silent Scream” by Stutterfly. There’s also a line in “What If His People Prayed” by Casting Crowns that’s relevant: “And what would happen if we prayed/ for those raised up to lead the way/ then maybe kids in school could pray/ and unborn children see light of day”

  • http://twitter.com/mt_infinity Adam Peter

    Really good songs…!
There is a song I know called Swim by an Irish musician called Lorcan James. It’s like a song to his unborn child.

You can listen & download on their facebook page:

I’ve been trying to find a song called “Endangered Species” I believe it was sung by Jon Gibson, but I might be wrong. If anyone remembers it and can tell me where I could get it I would appreciate it. rev.mariogonzalez@gmail.com

    Unborn Butterfly
    Richard Q’zeromen c. 2013

You’re sitting in a room looking at the wallpaper
and the water from the ceilin’ is fallin’ down like rain
    and Its insane
    Its insane

You’ve got your hand on your belly and thinkin’ of the unborn child
and the water from your body is about to break
    and Its insane
    Its insane

In the womb of a woman, God, plants seeds
In the womb of a woman, God, will bleed

You’re sitting in a room and wondering what its all about
and its nothin’ that a pen can ever cross out

    Its just insane
    Its insane

Yes, where living in a world that’s drivin’ in the fast lane
and nobody wants to stop and explain
    Yes- its insane
    Its all insane

In the womb of a woman, God, plants seeds
In the womb of a woman, God, will bleed

A Butterfly unborn, is a child of Jerusalem
A Butterfly’s no thorn, it just wants to be born
It just wants to be born

You’ve got your hand on your belly thinking it’s just a mistake
You can hear the rattlin’ sound of the Devil’s evil snake
    Its all insane
    Its insane

You’re writing on a pad and thinkin’ of the things you’ll need
but can you trust yourself to believe in Jesus Christ
    Its not insane
    Its not insane

In the womb of a woman, God, plants seeds
In the womb of a woman, God, will bleed

A Butterfly unborn, is a child of Jerusalem
A Butterfly’s no thorn, it just wants to be born
It just wants to be born

    Repeat Chorus

    Scalpel Of Genocide

    Richard Q’zeromen c.2013

The criminal mind is a hired killer, Doctor

Can you image the thriller of being an actor in this shame

Your acclaim to fame is unjustified

You’re a man with a scalpel of genocide

This criminal law is Hitler designed and improvised

You think of yourself as being civilized, all right

Your acclaim to fame is unjustified

You’re a man with a scalpel of genocide

The child can smile inside the womb

Like a flower blooms its still entombed in you,

and the sacred gate of your soul mate

is sleeping there while you betray the child

    Oh, she smiled

    Yea, she smiled

Well, you said you were assigned

and said goodbye to the hypocritical oath

and the things that you kill

are not some vile and horrid sloth

Your acclaim to fame is unjustified

You’re a man with a scalpel of genocide

The criminal mind is a hired killer, Doctor

and it may be familiar as you grunge through a day of dead

Your acclaim to fame is unjustified

You’re a man with a scalpel of genocide

The child can smile inside the womb

Like a flower blooms its still entombed in you

and the sacred gate of your soul mate

is sleeping there while you betray the child

    Oh, she smiled

    Yea, she smiled

The criminal mind, begins, with thee originator

We plow through this life while children will pay the price

    Your acclaim became a Holocaust

You’re a woman of change who’s been deceived

Loosing your soul is easier then a rain that falls

and someday you’ll hear a childlike sound that calls

    Your acclaim became a Holocaust

You’re a woman of change who’s been deceived

The child can smile inside the womb

Like a flower blooms its still entombed in you,

and the sacred gate of your soul mate

is sleeping there while you betray the child

    Oh, she smiled

    Yea, she smiled

    (Child heartbeat & Death)

Mid-80’s, the Christian Metal band, “Barren Cross”, put out the song ‘Killers Of The Unborn’ as their first single/video!

About 1991 or so, another Christian band, “Galactic Cowboys”, put out the somewhat more subtle “If I Were A Killer” and got LOADS of airplay on MTV.
