Indiana Abortion Provider Defunding Act & Planned Parenthood

Background: The state of Indiana recently passed a bill barring state Medicaid funding from going to abortion providers. As the largest abortion chain in Indiana, Planned Parenthood would no longer receive reimbursements from the government for seeing Medicaid patients. Planned Parenthood has sued Indiana in an attempt to force Indiana to restore their government funding. The Obama administration is supporting funding Planned Parenthood and is threatening to remove billions in federal Medicaid funding from Indiana if they do not start funding Planned Parenthood again.

If US HHS HSRA Search is your source for the “78 Health Care Providers” claim, your numbers are probably off. I checked the providers here in Allen County, Indiana. One of the two providers listed is a mental health center, and has nothing to do with the services Planned Parenthood offers.

I’m confused by the second- and third-to-last statistics… The one seems to contradict the other. How can there be 800 Medicaid qualified clinics JUST in counties with a Planned Parenthood, and only 78 non- Planned Parenthood providers in all of Indiana?

The 78 number is the number of providers besides PP that takes MediCaid

That would then mean that, even if there were only 800 Medicaid qualified clinics in all of Indiana (and that’s not what it says, it says that there are 800 Medicaid qualified clinics in counties that have a PP clinic) then 722 of those clinics would be Planned Parenthood clinics, vs. only 78 non-PP clinics. See what I mean? Something’s worded incorrectly there.
