Newt Gingrich Clarifies: Life Begins at Fertilization

Last week, Newt Gingrich told ABC News that he believes life begins at implantation.

Today, Joe DeSantis, Communications Director for Newt 2012, told me:

To be clear, Newt believes that human life begins at conception, that is, at the moment of fertilization.

This distinction is crucial. Gingrich has said he supports Congress enacting pro-life legislation under the 14th Amendment, including legislation that would define personhood as beginning at conception.

When asked if Gingrich will be supporting this definition of conception (fertilization not implantation) in such legislation, DeSantis said: “Yes.”

Do you really believe that?  I mean if you can’t get that non-sense passed in Mississippi, let alone Colorado, what chance do you think any sitting president is going to give serious support to a constitutional amendment, much less one like that.  I’m always a little amused how Republican candidates use this issue like a dog whistle to rally the base, and how the base always falls for it, especially the Christian Right.  I guess I can’t blame the politicians for trying – they’ve been doing it for almost 40 years now ever since Nixon flopped on the issue to peel away McGovern’s liberal Catholic vote.  It worked then and it has often worked since, but I wouldn’t bet on it working this time.

I am shocked at how people with little or no faith think life on planet earth will go on indefinitely with murder being legal.  God sees everything.  The world did not become flat 500 plus years ago because people believed it to be flat.  God DOES exist even though the ideology of atheistic communism has been imposed on the world.  God is in control, and He can put an end to this battle that is raging whenever He wants.  With WWIII just around the corner, I hardly think abortion will be legal for much longer.  As it was at the time of Noah, so it will be when Jesus Christ returns.

        Wow.

Sorry, I just realized you are talking about legislation not a constitutional amendment.  I’ve got to slow down… but still that type of legislation has about as much chance of passing under any president as a constitutional amendment of similar content would have of being ratified.

Newt Gingrich can’t possibly be looked to for any kind of moral guidance from anyone.
