Obama Threatens to Cut Off Low Income Healthcare Funds to Indiana if They Defund Planned Parenthood

Last month Indiana voted to defund Planned Parenthood and the Obama administration is not taking kindly that choice. The AP is reporting that the Obama administration may withhold up to $4.3 billion in Medicaid funding for low income healthcare from Indiana if they do not change their mind about defunding Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood has long been a target of pro-life advocates as they perform more than one in four US abortion and are one of the most outspoken political defenders of the procedure. In Indiana, Planned Parenthood performs over half of all abortions based on their latest annual report which showed that they did 5,580 termination procedures. About 10,700 abortions are annually performed statewide by all providers.

The question facing the Obama administration is whether they are willing to leave low-income families without health care to punish Indiana. Last week the White House and HHS ordered Indiana to reinstate funds for Planned Parenthood.

Where do things go from here? Possibilities range from nothing happening at all and the defunding standing to the Obama administration withholding all federal Medicaid funds from Indiana. A compromise is also possible. A legal challenge is active too as LifeNews.com reports that:

Planned Parenthood has sued Indiana over the new law and U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, who has said she would rule by July 1, is expected to hold a hearing tomorrow on the law.

Mike Fichter, the director of Indiana Right to Life, told LifeNews:

“The Obama administration appears to be intent on trying to force Indiana to subsidize the business of abortion in direct contrast to the desires of the state legislature and the people of Indiana. Indiana must refuse to be bullied by the federal government and must challenge this politically-charged determination with full vigor. The state of Indiana has a right to determine how it will manage its Medicaid program and to select the providers it will partner with. Planned Parenthood is not entitled to public funding,” he said.

As I see it, Medicaid is supposed to help people with medical problems. Only half the patients that come out from an abortion comes out alive! That is not paying for medical treatment, basically it’s murder for hire! I am all for Indiana and it’s stand because there are a lot of people that do not get the healthcare they need, including pregnant women who want their babies. What Obama is doing is completely legal. The state cannot legally pick and choose which agencies provide health care to people covered by Medicaid. A federal statute directs the withholding of all Medicaid funding from a state if it violates federal law.

Also, Medicaid can’t even cover abortions in Indiana, except in cases of rape, incest, or life endangerment of the mother.

Okay which is it? I read that our Governor, Mitch Daniels, cutoff “taxpayer funds” to Planned Parenthood here. As a hoosier that doesn’t believe in abortions unless it is a threat to the Mother’s life or happened out of rape, I don’t want my State Tax Dollars going towards this so I am behind Mitch 100%. Then, I read elsewhere that ”federal funds” are what has been cutoff to them. Therefore, I ask, is it State Funds or Federal Funds that this Bill cuts out to them? If it is State Taxpayer money, then I don’t see how our so-called President can do what he is threatening to do!

If you believe abortion is wrong as babies are “innocent,” then it is hypocritical to say someone should have been aborted when they too were also an innocent baby. In addition, it is hypocritical to be “pro life” when the life part only applies in situations that you deem fit. If you are going to use the pro life label, then you should actually be pro life.

If the Federal Government by the powers enumerated in the Naturalization Clause has to power to govern immigration then that means they should enforce the violation of immigration laws wherein the states have sanctuary cities. How to get a governemt to enforce it’s own laws is a tricky situation. The states have the power to stop this nonsense through things like what is going on with Planned Parenthood where the states are refusing to fund them. The Feds come back and say then we won’t give you money for Medicaid. This isn’t the worst position to put the feds in and it is a way to get rid of universal healthcare. The states can say look America we can give you welfare because the feds won’t give us the money. The real issue will come down to when states take back their resources such as in the state where I live the resource of the land. Alaska drill baby drill. The issue is not federation but Federalism. And I agree I do wish that people would be educated. But since the schools don’t do it then? The Supremacy Clause is only applicable if the federal government is acting to enforce laws wherein their powers have been enumerated in the Constitution. “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or laws of any state to the contrary notwithstanding”. There are powers enumerated in the Constitution that belong to the states as well. This is what is known as Federalism. The only reason that the state of Arizona ‘s laws fail in the immigration issue is because the powers of immigration have been enumerated to belong to the federal government in naturalization clause (Article 1 Section in the Constitution (according to the United Stes Supreme Court). Where the US Constitution enumerates powers to the Congress or President then those powers do not lie within the individual state. Immigration federal and marriage state. I love Federalism.

Actually, the states are federated, given that they share sovereignty with the federal government.

Arizona has, however, passed a “State Sovereignty” resolution. Although, the Supreme Court holds that federal law still prevails over state law due to the Supremacy Clause.

The “Health Care” President withholding healthcare from the poor? Demanding that state government money be spent providing what federal money can not be spent on so that federal dollars will provide health care to the poor does not make sense.

I do not believe that Indiana has only one low income health care provider, Planned Parenthood. This cannot possibly be true. In my Illinois town of 25,000, we have a hospital, multiple doctors offices and clinics and a County health dept. clinic. All of them treat Medicaid patients.

Almost 90% of the abortions performed in Indiana are in and around the poor, ethnic neighborhoods surrounding Indianapolis. I for one, am proud of my State for standing up and attempting to stop the genocide (which is why Margaret Sanger started Planned Parenthood to begin with). Telling an emotional, hormonal, confused poor woman that her BEST and ONLY option is murder is just an atrocity. Conversely, go into a Planned Parenthood in the lower income predominately white areas and they will bend over backwards to get these mothers assistance in any way possible to ensure the life of the baby goes full term. Indiana has every right to determine if Planned Parenthood is who they are going to Partner with and they are right in not believeing any abortion agency has a right to state assistance when it is opposed by the state and its legislature. This is another case of the Federal Government being out of order in interferring with states rights. Medicaid for seniors is critical and abortion is not. Whey should the seniors be the victims of the Federal dictator. They are not to blame for anything. Indiana should have their representative file articles of impeachment against Obama and make him fight a trial. Thank you Dragonslayer Live Action proves that they don’t do Mammograms. My eyes were really opened to Planned Parenthood after reading ABBY JOHNSON’S book called UNPLANNED. Abby Johnson used to be a director of planned parenthood and used to be prochoice. She helped with an abortion and her mind completely changed. The federal Government was (should be is) given limited powers to govern. The operative word is govern; not control. When President Obama was elected, He seemed to feel he has the right to rule instead of lead. Those were the words of his staff; rule.
