12 U.S. Senators Demand Google Reinstate Live Action’s Life Saving Ads
Washington, D.C. –
Today, 12 U.S. Senators led by Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) and Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) are demanding answers after Google began censoring pro-life ads by Live Action, a human rights nonprofit with the largest and most engaged following in the global pro-life movement.
The letter written by Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) and signed by 10 other members points out that by banning the pro-life ads Google is preventing life-saving information from being promoted:
“While banning pro-life APR ads, Google continues to allow ads for purveyors of the deadly abortion pill mifepristone by mail, despite the fact this drug has resulted in at least 24 mothers’ tragic deaths and at least 1,042 mothers being sent to the hospital. Google’s double standard on abortion is disingenuous and an egregious abuse of its enormous market power to protect the billion-dollar abortion industry. The practical consequence of Google’s abortion distortion is that pregnant mothers in crisis will only have the option to be marketed abortion drugs through Google’s ad platforms, while life-affirming alternatives are suppressed.”
Another letter, spearheaded by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), acknowledges the danger Google’s bias is creating:
“When I spoke with Mark Zuckerberg about a similar issue in September 2019, he acknowledged the danger of bias on the parts of content reviewers in this area, particularly where pro-life activist groups like Live Action are concerned. But if your company’s behavior is any indication, those concerns have gone unaddressed. Rather, your company appears to have taken a page out of the progressive left playbook and has started targeting pregnancy resource centers and pro-life activist organizations for disfavor. This would not be the first time that political considerations have influenced your company’s ad eligibility decisions”
Lila Rose, Founder and President of Live Action, responded:
“Live Action, along with the entire pro-life community are standing strong with the U.S. Senators who are demanding answers from Big Tech companies that have control over the information we consume. With this move, Google is restricting censoring life-saving options in order to protect the billion-dollar abortion industry. It is anti-choice and morally wrong. Google is using the pro-abortion medical group the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as justification for banning Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) ads. Thousands of doctors including the pro-life medical group the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) vehemently disagree, and hundreds of pro-life medical professionals have used APR to save thousands of lives. Google must apply fairness and uniformity to its policy and allow Live Action and other pro-life partners back on its ads platform.”
