“Xavier Becerra is a deadly threat to preborn children. As California Attorney General, Becerra has proven to be an abortion activist, and an enemy of the First Amendment rights of pro-life journalists, pregnancy centers, churches, and religious organizations. He tried to force pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise abortion services, and lost at the Supreme Court. As California’s chief law enforcement officer, he prosecuted pro-life journalists instead of the criminals they exposed selling aborted baby body parts. He wants to force churches and religious orders to cover abortions and contraceptives under their healthcare plans, against the express judgment of the HHS Office of Civil Rights which held this policy to be a civil rights violation.

“Becerra is anti-science and sexist. In 2012, when he served in the U.S. Congress, he voted against H.R. 3541, the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA), which would have imposed civil and criminal penalties on anyone knowingly attempting to perform a sex-selective abortion.  He also voted against banning the heinous practice of partial birth abortion, a law which even Joe Biden supported at the time. Becerra voted against protecting preborn children capable of feeling pain, and against ensuring survivors of abortion are given medical care.

“Americans deserve responsible public health policy set by leaders who value human life.  Becerra is a pro-abortion activist and friend of the abortion industry, with no medical background. As head of HHS, Becerra can harness the full power of federal public health toward the destruction of our most vulnerable lives. This is chilling. Such power and responsibility must not be entrusted to a man who ignores science and openly violates the civil rights of journalists, churches, and the preborn. The Senate should oppose this dangerous nominee, or his agenda will become public health policy nationwide.”
