Live Action Responds To New Facebook Developments
“We are concerned that Facebook’s ‘investigation’ will only lead to the pro-abortion fact-checkers doubling down on their false and inaccurate statements, and that Facebook will refuse to respect the differences of position on this matter of thousands of other pro-life medical professionals.” – Lila Rose
Washington, D.C. – On August 30, 2019 Facebook notified Live Action, a leading national nonprofit with the largest online following in the pro-life movement, that two videos affirming the widely-held view that “abortion is never medically necessary” were marked as “false.” This was the result of a “fact-check” by two abortionists, Daniel Grossman and Robyn Schickler, who commit and profit from the procedure. Facebook also informed Live Action that the page of Live Action President, Lila Rose, and any links to liveaction.org would have “reduced distribution and other restrictions because of repeated sharing of false news.” Users who shared the video received a notification that they had shared “false” information. Live Action and Lila Rose’s Facebook pages have over 3 million combined followers. Since Facebook’s decision to censor Live Action and Lila Rose, the American Association of Pro-Life OB-GYNS, an association of over 2,500 board-certified OB-GYNS, have condemned Facebook’s actions. A group of U.S. Senators have also issued a letter to Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg condemning Facebook’s actions against Live Action. In response, on September 11, Facebook temporarily removed the violations from the accounts and initiated an “investigation” into the fact checking process.
Statement from Live Action Founder and President, Lila Rose:
“We’ve been told the violations are only lifted temporarily from our account while Facebook conducts its ‘investigation.’ However, the damage to Live Action has been done, and Facebook has taken no responsibility for sending a notification to thousands of our followers that we are sharing false news. Facebook’s blatant error in using two activist abortionists as their fact-checkers of pro-life content should be obvious to them and anyone.”
“We are also deeply concerned by the fact that the abortionists’ article lied about Live Action’s position, misrepresented statements made by me and, in an attempt to smear our organization, ignored our explanation of why ‘abortion is never medically necessary,’ provided by Board-Certified neonatologist Dr. Kendra Kolb, and backed by thousands of medical professionals. The abortionist’s article also included multiple inaccuracies, including the claim that ‘abortion is medically defined as a procedure to end pregnancy.’ It is absurd and not medically accurate to claim that an abortion is defined as a ‘procedure to end a pregnancy.’ If that were true, then a delivery of a live baby, which is also a ‘procedure to end a pregnancy’ would be included as an ‘abortion.’ While there are multiple medical definitions of the term ‘abortion,’ we are clearly talking about elective abortion, which is legally established as a procedure done for the purpose of producing a dead fetus.
“We are concerned that Facebook’s ‘investigation’ will only lead to the pro-abortion fact-checkers doubling down on their false and inaccurate statements, and that Facebook will refuse to respect the differences of position on this matter of thousands of other pro-life medical professionals. We need Facebook to be transparent with their users, to publicly admit their error and apologize to the thousands of our followers that they directly contacted, and reform their corrupt fact-checking process permanently.”
