Federal Judge Rules Deadly Abortion Drug Was Approved Illegally

National Pro-Life Group Applauds Decision and Calls for End to Abortion Nationwide

Amarillo, Texas – Today, District Court Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk ruled to overturn the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, the abortion drug which has been used as the primary method of killing our nation’s most vulnerable members for the past two decades. 

Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action released the following statement:

“The abortion pill destroys a growing human being. The drug kills the preborn child by starving him or her of the vital nutrients needed to grow. This decision restricting the abortion pill will save children from the violence of chemical abortion and will allow them to enjoy their constitutional right to be born and live. The FDA’s lack of oversight and illegal approval of this drug in 2000 has not only led to the deaths of an estimated 5.6 million children but has been associated with the deaths of at least 28 women and has injured many more.

Over twenty years ago, the FDA caved to pressure from the abortion lobby and neglected the health and safety of women and children to approve the distribution of mifepristone, the intended use of which is to starve a living child in the womb. This deadly drug is approved for use up through ten weeks of pregnancy, at which point a human child has arms, eyelids, fingers, toes, and organs. These children have beating hearts, and if they were not intentionally killed, they would live. In combination with misoprostol, the abortion pill regimen accounts for over half of all abortions in the United States.

True healthcare heals. It does not kill. The FDA’s decision to approve the chemical abortion pill was egregiously wrong from the outset and has been a grave wound in the soul of our country. Today’s ruling is an important step towards protecting women and their preborn children, but the battle does not end here. This decision to pull the deadly drugs will not go into effect for seven days, and we expect that this decision will be appealed by abortion advocates and may ultimately make its way to the Supreme Court. 

We will not stop until every child is protected from the violence of abortion and every mother and father feels equipped and supported to raise a family.”
