Live Action Applauds Mississippi’s Push to Overturn Roe v. Wade
Washington, D.C. – Today, Live Action, a human rights nonprofit with the largest and most engaged following in the global pro-life movement, issued a statement in support of Mississippi’s effort to protect preborn children and women from the abortion industry. Last week, Attorney General (AG) Lynn Fitch, the state’s first female AG, filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the state’s 15-week abortion limit. The state’s Gestational Age Act, which limits abortion at 15 weeks, was authored by a female nurse. The case before the Supreme Court, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, asks the court to consider whether pre-viability limits on abortion are unconstitional. A 2021 Marist poll shows 80% of Americans want to limit abortion to the first three months of pregnancy. The case will be heard in the Fall of 2021.
Lila Rose, Founder and President of Live Action, responded:
“This is real leadership. Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood are nonsensical, unjust laws that have enabled the killing of over 60 million innocent preborn children. It’s long past time to send it to history’s trash heap.
“Science has advanced since 1973, but sadly, our laws have not. Since Roe, the viability marker has moved from 28 weeks to 22 weeks. We now have 4-D ultrasounds, medical advancements which allow us to perform surgery and save life in-utero, and high-definition footage showing the earliest moments of life. Medicine will only advance further. Definitions and standards of viability are vague, outdated, and ever-changing. Roe did not settle the debate but only confused the nation as to why some people are granted legal protection in our country and others are legally allowed to be killed via abortion.
“The pro-life movement has worked every day to educate the world about the reality of what abortion does to a preborn child, what abortion does to a woman, and how it has deeply wounded our view of motherhood, and families. Abortion has broken the conscience of our nation. We encourage the Court to cast these decisions into the dustbin of history along with Dred Scott, Plessy, and Korematsu.”
