“If this was a royal baby fighting for his life, would the British courts have ruled so cruelly?”
Washington, D.C. – Live Action President Lila Rose responds to news that Alder Hey Hospital in the U.K. has removed the life support of Alfie Evans, the seriously ill toddler being held there, following a British Supreme Court ruling denying his parents the ability to take their son to another hospital. Last year, the world watched as Charlie Gard, a British infant whose parents were barred from seeking care, died in an English hospital. Now the world is watching as little Alfie Evans fights for his life.
Live Action President Lila Rose:
“Despite hospital officials declaring Alfie Evans not worthy of further medical care or able to live on his own, Alfie has been breathing unassisted now for more than 20 hours. Let’s be clear: Alfie is being held captive at Alder Hey hospital, against the wishes of his parents and family. His parents are forcibly barred from taking him to their hospital of choice in Italy for specialized care and treatment. This is a lethal abuse of state power, and a grave violation of the rights of parents to care for their children. Yesterday, the Royal family welcomed a new baby into their family amid international celebration. Meanwhile, the British government deemed Alfie unfit to continue living. If this was a royal baby fighting for his life, would the British courts have ruled so cruelly?”
