One of the largest ever worldwide 40 Days for Life campaigns has just come to an end, and president Shawn Carney wrote at Life News that the organization has 454 confirmed reports of babies saved during that time.
Every 40 Days for Life campaign, powerful stories emerge that give witness to the strength of the pro-life cause, like the motorist who stopped by one location and let them know they were responsible for saving her son’s life.
One volunteer in the Bronx follows up with every mother who changes her mind about aborting her baby, and gives her a baby shower. When women need support — like one distressed woman who placed a call to Viviane, the Schenectady campaign leader — pro-life leaders are there for them. The woman on the phone had discovered her daughter was pregnant and seeking abortion. Viviane helped her dialogue with her abortion-minded daughter, while she mobilized others to pray for them both. According to their Facebook page, “After conversations, setbacks, and tears, the woman called Viviane with tears of joy–this time to tell her that her daughter and the father had decided to keep the baby,” said Larry, one of the campaign’s participants. “God is working in ways we cannot even imagine!”

More than 30 countries all over the world participated. In Mexico, an abortion facility closed. In Croatia, in order to address the mindset of mothers who have one or two children already and do not want any more, the local participants gave their campaign the theme, “One Child More.” In Bogota, Colombia, a desperate father encountered participants of 40 Days for Life outside an abortion facility. He left not only rejecting abortion, but promising to participate in the campaign.

The 40 Days for Life campaign began as a small outreach in 2004 in response to the opening of a Planned Parenthood in Bryan, Texas. But the simultaneous, nationwide campaign of prayer and fasting, education, and support that the organization is known for began in 2007. In 2009, the campaign reportedly received former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson after she left the area’s Planned Parenthood. This year, the campaign got a boost from the movie Unplanned, which is based off the events surrounding Abby Johnson’s departure from Planned Parenthood.
“In the last campaign, we were excited to see so much growth take place in the battle to end abortion through victories like the release of the Unplanned movie, which prominently highlighted 40 Days for Life’s role in ending abortion,” Shawn Carney, president and CEO of 40 Days for Life, told Life Site News at the campaign’s kickoff. Carney was encouraged by the growing reach of the campaign, and said that it shows the “pro-life movement is stronger than ever before.”
40 Days for Life is planning a live video to show how the prayers and support of all who joined in the campaign saved lives and changed hearts worldwide.
