The misinformation commonly spread by Planned Parenthood and their supporters is that abortion makes up only 3 percent of their services. Over the years, and more recently, Live Action debunked this myth and educated the public on the truth. How did Planned Parenthood get to 3 percent? The abortion giant performed 323,999 abortions in 2014-2015. Of their 9,455,582 total procedures, that is 3 percent. Planned Parenthood counts every issuance of birth control and condoms (which may be handed to women as they leave from their abortion) as individual services. These services are not counted to the abortion percentage, but are connected to the abortion visit.
Of the 2.5 million clients Planned Parenthood saw, if 323,999 of them had an abortion, that means 1 in 8 patients had an abortion. That’s not 3 percent. Further, over 90 percent of women who are pregnant and go to a Planned Parenthood have an abortion, fulfilling the organization’s abortion business model.
Why isn’t Planned Parenthood honest about their numbers? It’s not that they’re against abortion; far from it. Abortion is health care and a constitutional right, according to the abortion giant. The organization also claims that they’re the advocate for women and women’s health. Planned Parenthood has yet to meet an abortion regulation or restriction they don’t like, virtually opposing any and all of them while painting their opponents as extremists.
As mentioned in the video, however, Planned Parenthood has quite the extreme political stance. A Congressional investigation last September found that Planned Parenthood’s political arm was also benefiting from taxpayer dollars.
Abortion is very much a part of what Planned Parenthood does — not cancer screenings, as they lead the public to believe. Their affiliates perform less than 2 percent of all breast cancer screenings, which are not mammograms, but rather what women can do themselves at home, and they perform less than 1 percent of all pap smear tests.
If the public were as supportive of unrestricted, taxpayer-funded abortion as Planned Parenthood and their political allies are, there would be no need to lie and mislead about services and the percentage of clients receiving such services. Planned Parenthood may claim to have support, but it seems that the way they get more support is through ginned up figures — just one more way they’re deceiving the public.
The pro-life movement already knows that Planned Parenthood is full of lies and deceit; they’ve been documented deceiving people plenty of times over several years. So it’s sadly no surprise then that they would mislead about their abortion statistics.
It’s time for the public to be aware of Planned Parenthood’s real agenda.
