Liberty Counsel defends pro-life advocate against Eric Holder

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has filed an appeal in the case of Holder v. Pine, according to a press release from Liberty Counsel. The Attorney General had sought enormous fines from Susan Pine. Holder accused Pine of blocking the entrance to an abortion clinic in Florida. In reality, Susan pine was counseling women on the public sidewalk, attempting to save the lives of unborn children.

Federal Judge Kenneth L. Ryskamp dismissed Holder’s lawsuit in January, citing Holder’s inability to present any evidence in the case. In addition, Liberty Counsel’s Wednesday press release also cites a “cozy relationship” between the Department of Justice and the Presidential Women’s Center, where the alleged incident occurred. Liberty Counsel reports that Judge Ryskamp suspected “A conspiracy at the highest level of the Obama Administration,” after video of the incident was not retained by the Department of Justice or the Presidential Women’s Center.

Judge Ryskamp stated, “The Court is at a loss as to why the Government chose to prosecute

this particular case in the first place. The Court can only wonder whether this action was the product of a concerted effort between the Government and PWC (Presidential Women’s Center), which began well before the date of the incident at issue, to quell Ms. Pine’s activities rather than to vindicate the rights of those allegedly aggrieved by Ms. Pine’s conduct.”

According to Liberty Counsel’s press release, Liberty Counsel has asked Judge Ryskamp to award Ms. Pine around $140,000.00 in attorney’s fees as well as the cost of defending “herself against Holder’s political lawsuit.” The Department of Justice continues to waste taxpayer dollars to fund the “abortion lobby’s efforts to silence pro-life Americans.”

Senior Litigation Counsel for Liberty Counsel Harry Mihet, noted, “The Justice Department has apparently forgotten its name and that its purpose is to pursue justice, not unconstitutional, groundless claims manufactured by abortion clinics to intimidate and silence pro-life Americans. Mr. Holder’s appeal will meet with the same fate as his initial lawsuit. His time would be better spent protection, rather than undermining, the Constitution he swore to uphold.”

Liberty Counsel defines itself as “an international nonprofit litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics.” You can found out more about Liberty Counsel here.
