Women in Congress are leading the charge to defund Planned Parenthood

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, recently spoke at the MAKERS Conference on ways to fight the winning efforts of the pro-life movement.

In her talk, Richards laid ground for the future of Planned Parenthood and how to fight back against the efforts of a pro-life Congress to defund America’s largest abortion corporation.

Her talking points included the Women’s March on Washington, getting men involved in pro-choice efforts, reaching out to diverse groups, and ways to share abortion stories and unify women, since they allegedly make up the majority of America. What was most striking was her second talking point regarding women running for public office. Near the beginning of her talk, Richards urged women to get involved in politics, and claimed that if more women were in Congress, Planned Parenthood would no longer have a fight on its hands.

“I keep thinking, if I had more members of Congress that could get pregnant, we could quit fighting about Planned Parenthood,” Richards said.

Contrary to her non-factual belief, women in Congress have some of the loudest voices in opposition to Planned Parenthood. Many are also mothers.

Take, for example, Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) – a mother of three and sponsor of H.J. Res. 43, a bill that would redirect state funding of Planned Parenthood to community health centers. On Tuesday, Black testified before the House Rules Committee on behalf of the bill:

According to Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood’s contraceptive services dropped by 18% over the last year. And their total number of services provided dropped by 11% even as their taxpayer funding increased by millions and their abortions continued at over 320,000 a year.

Black summarized her resolution best by stating:

With this resolution, we simply are allowing states to invest in the women’s health care over abortion and to reallocate those Title X dollars to other, more comprehensive providers.

Another congresswoman leading the charge against Planned Parenthood is Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) – a mother of two children who, in 2013, introduced legislation that would defund Planned Parenthood.

According to a 2013 LifeNews article, “[Blackburn] introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 61), which would stop the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from providing federal family planning assistance under Title X to abortion businesses until they certify they won’t provide and refer for abortions.”

Here’s a short list of pro-life congresswomen/mothers There are other pro-lifers listed below.

U.S. Senators:

  1. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa)
  2. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.)
  3. Shelley Capito (R-W.V.)

U.S. Representatives:

  1. Martha Roby (R-Ala.)
  2. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.)
  3. Mimi Walters (R-Calif.)
  4. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.)
  5. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.)
  6. Susan Brooks (R-Ind.)
  7. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.)
  8. Ann Wagner (R-Mo.)
  9. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.)
  10. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.)
  11. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.)
  12. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.)
  13. Kay Granger (R-Texas)
  14. Mia Love (R-Utah)
  15. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.)
  16. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.)
  17. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.)

Mrs. Richards’ call on women to get involved in politics isn’t because Planned Parenthood is winning and she wants to see more women in Congress. No, it’s because she knows that the abortion industry is losing and is on its last legs.
