Call your senators: Defunding Planned Parenthood may hinge on these 11 votes

Senate, Congress, born alive

On Thursday morning, the U.S. Senate released its current draft for health care legislation, which would also defund Planned Parenthood for one year and redirect money from the abortion corporation to more readily available federally-funded health centers. Successfully defunding Planned Parenthood, however, will still hinge on both the final language of the legislation and the votes of senators in 11 states.

Live Action has developed a tool to make it easy for constituents of these 10 key senators to contact them and urge them to make the right decision and defund Planned Parenthood.

Constituents in Alaska, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia can help influence the outcome of the Senate vote. Live Action’s tool helps residents of these states easily do just that. The 10 senators, both Democrats and Republicans, who may hold the defunding of Planned Parenthood in their hands are as follows:

  • Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)
  • Bill Nelson (D-Fla.)
  • Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.)
  • Susan Collins (R-Maine)
  • Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.)
  • Jon Tester (D-Mont.)
  • Dean Heller (R-Nev.)
  • Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.)
  • Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio)
  • Bob Casey (D-Pa.)
  • Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.)

It is vital that pro-lifers contact these senators promptly to urge them to defund the abortion corporation. Taxpayer dollars should truly benefit women’s health care, not fund an already-wealthy abortion provider who provides zero mammograms and very little prenatal care.

Live Action’s simple action tool provides phones numbers and links to tweet or email these senators without having to look up the information. Additionally, Live Action provides a template for those who want to call, but are not sure what to say:

I urge Senator ___________ to use the current reconciliation bill to stop the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars going to Planned Parenthood. Instead, redirect it to Federally Qualified Health Centers and Rural Health Clinics across the country. Those centers and clinics provide more primary and preventive health care services to women who need affordable care. They’re also more accessible, outnumbering Planned Parenthood locations by the thousands. Planned Parenthood’s own annual reports show that it does no mammograms and it does less than two percent of women’s Pap tests and cancer screenings in the U.S. It also offers almost no prenatal care to pregnant women, but it commits over a third of all abortions in America. Every day you delay redirecting that money, Planned Parenthood receives over $1.5 million from taxpayers like me to keep its doors open and kill another 887 preborn children. Thank you for passing my message on.

Lest people think it unnecessary to make that call because “it won’t make any difference,” those who support funding the abortion giant are currently working a social media campaign urging abortion supporters to call the five Republican senators who may be pulling away from supporting the health care bill.

These senators will be getting calls about the bill, but it’s up to pro-lifers to be sure they get the calls, emails, and tweets that encourage the re-routing of funding away from the nation’s largest abortion chain.
