How can the “Dream” survive if we murder the children? If the Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is to live, our babies must live. Our mothers must choose life. – Dr. Alveda King
August 28th marked the 54th anniversary of the March on Washington, the historic event during which Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his beloved “I Have a Dream Speech” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. August 28th also memorialized the 62nd anniversary of 14-year-old Emmett Till’s brutal racially-motivated death.
Decades after King gave his famous speech, his legacy lives on. Yet, his niece, Dr. Alveda King, is speaking out about why the fulfillment of King’s Dream remains under threat. In a piece written for Priests for Life, Alveda King penned her thoughts about why abortion is undermining her uncle’s Dream:
Oh, God, what would Martin Luther King, Jr., who dreamed of having his children judged by the content of their characters do if he’d lived to see the contents of thousands of children’s skulls emptied into the bottomless caverns of the abortionists pits?
…How can the “Dream” survive if we murder the children? Every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his or her mother. The mother decides his or her fate…If the Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is to live, our babies must live. Our mothers must choose life.
King, who is a vocal pro-life activist, has not shied away from speaking about how abortion has disproportionately killed Black Americans. She said abortion is fulfilling the goal of racism by eliminating Black lives in the womb. She also discusses how Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, was motivated by eugenics, and how legal abortion was pushed onto the Black community as empowerment and reproductive freedom:
When abortion became legal, then it was offered on a disproportionate rate to the black community, and sold as reproductive health care, reproductive freedom – this is your right. But Black Lives Matter in the womb, I would think.
Planned Parenthood hates it when this is explained. About 60 to 70% of all Planned Parenthoods are in minority neighborhoods, King explained. “Abortion is billed and marketed – abortion mills or clinics are in predominantly black communities and we have proven this.
Abortion, King says, has not only disproportionately killed Black lives, but has hurt the Black community at large:
We have been tricked and fooled and bought into that lie that abortion is healthcare and it’s helping our communities. Prior to ’73, certainly in the black community, there were less strokes, heart attacks, and all those things. After ’73, with all that, the numbers went up in every community but certainly in the black community because abortion is connected to strokes, heart attacks, depression, drug addiction, and on and on.
