Their conversion stories prove that anyone can become pro-life

Forty-six years after Roe v. Wade legalized abortion throughout the United States, the debate continues to rage throughout the country. But research shows Americans are beginning to lean more pro-life. In fact, even ardent pro-choicers have experienced pro-life conversions proving the truth always wins.

Abby Johnson, Planned Parenthood director

Abby Johnson is arguably the most famous pro-life convert. The movie “Unplanned” details her conversion and landed at number four at the box office in March. As Planned Parenthood’s youngest-ever clinic director, she spent years convincing women to have abortions believing that she was helping them. Then in 2009, something changed.

Johnson says she was called upon to assist with an ultrasound-guided abortion and watched as a 13-week-old baby struggled for his life. It was at that moment that Johnson realized what abortion actually is. Desperate to disassociate with Planned Parenthood and abortion, Johnson turned to a local pro-life group and dedicated her life to ending abortion.

Over the years since her conversion, Johnson has exposed Planned Parenthood’s abortion quotas, their business model, and the truth about the abortion-centric business masquerading as a non-profit health center. She also founded And Then There Were None, a pro-life group dedicated to helping abortion workers leave the industry.

Dr. Anthony Levatino, abortionist

Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino, who played the abortionist in the recently released movie about Abby Johnson’s conversion, “Unplanned,” committed over 1,200 abortions before becoming pro-life.

“I used to tell myself a million excuses to justify what I did: ‘We need money.’ ‘I’m not pro-abortion, I’m pro-woman.’ ‘Abortion is only a small part of what I do as a doctor.’ I believed it was ‘pro-woman’ to provide this option. While abortion was never a major part of my practice, as time went on it caused me more and more conflict,” he said.

He and his wife struggled with infertility and were trying to adopt, yet “all the while I was throwing other people’s children in the garbage at the rate of 9 or 10 a week. I began to think, ‘If only one of these women could give us her child.'”

The couple adopted a baby girl, but a few years later, she was hit by a car and died. The tragic loss of his daughter set Levatino on the path to a pro-life conversion.

“That’s when things really changed for me regarding abortion,” he explained. “I realized as never before that the child I was killing in each abortion was somebody’s precious child. […] I began to feel like a paid assassin… and that’s exactly what I was.”

Eventually, he would stop committing abortions altogether and become a pro-life advocate, even testifying to Congress. He tells about the dangers of abortion to women and explains why abortion is never necessary to save a woman’s health or life.

Dr. Bernard Nathanson, abortionist

A force behind the legalization of abortion, Dr. Bernard Nathanson committed or took part in over 75,000 abortions. While practicing medicine, he aborted his own child and confessed in his autobiography that he “had no feelings aside from the sense of accomplishment, the pride of expertise.”

In the 1960s, Nathanson co-founded the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, which was eventually renamed NARAL Pro-Choice America. The group accomplished its original goal of legalizing abortion in part by lying about the number of women dying from illegal abortions – a number ten times greater than it actually was.

Once Roe v. Wade was decided, however, he began to have a change of heart. By 1980, he left the abortion industry and came out as pro-life. Still an atheist at the time, he maintained that his reasoning was scientific. He helped to produce the film “The Silent Scream,” which shows the ultrasound of a preborn child fighting for his or her life against the abortionist. He also admitted to highly inflating the number of women who were dying from abortion.

“This was the greatest mistake of my life,” he once said, “and legal abortion was the greatest mistake this nation ever conceived.”

Norma McCorvey, “Jane Roe” of Roe v. Wade

Better known to the world as Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade, Norma McCorvey was seeking an illegal abortion when attorney Sarah Weddington connected with her.  She wanted abortion legal, and had McCorvey sign an affidavit under the pseudonym.

“[They] were looking for somebody, anybody, to use to further their own agenda,” said McCorvey. “I was their most willing dupe.”

The lawyers pushed the claim that McCorvey was raped, gathering public sympathy for the case, but years later McCorvey admitted the rape was a lie. McCorvey’s daughter was born and placed for adoption while the case was still being argued.

McCorvey began working in abortion facilities where her eyes were opened to the injustices of abortion. She told of a rat-infested clinic with falling plaster and blood splatters on the walls. She began refusing to cooperate with the staff, and started telling patients the truth about abortion. McCorvey began attending church. She quit the abortion industry and began speaking out against abortion.

“I’ve worked in four abortion clinics, and I’ve seen firsthand what abortion does to women,” she said. “[…] Now I’m 100% devoted to Jesus and 100% pro-life. No exceptions. No compromise.”

President Donald Trump

In his book “The America We Deserve” published in 2000, Donald Trump wrote, “I support a woman’s right to choose but I am uncomfortable with the procedures.” By 2011, he was proclaiming himself to be pro-life. He told CBN News’ David Brody, “One thing about me, I’m a very honorable guy. I’m pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago.”  Trump told the story of a friend whose wife was pregnant and how that friend didn’t want the baby.

“He was crying as he was telling me the story,” said Trump. “He ends up having the baby and the baby is the apple of his eye. It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to him. And you know here’s a baby that wasn’t going to be let into life. And I heard this, and some other stories, and I am pro-life.”

After winning the presidential election in 2016, Trump immediately reinstated the Mexico City Policy, stopping federal dollars from funding non-government organizations that promote or commit abortions overseas. He nominated two pro-life judges to the Supreme Court and removed funding from Planned Parenthood. He was the first sitting president to address the March of Life.

“Today, we focus our attention on the love and protection each person, born and unborn, deserves regardless of disability, gender, appearance, or ethnicity,” he said on the 45th anniversary of Roe v Wade. “Much of the greatest suffering in our Nation’s history – and, indeed, our planet’s history – has been the result of disgracefully misguided attempts to dehumanize whole classes of people based on these immutable characteristics.”

Countless pro-choice individuals have changed their stance on abortion once they realized the truth. Their stories prove that the truth about abortion will help even the most pro-abortion of us to have a change of heart.
