The Connecticut anti-pregnancy center bill fueled by NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut died in the State Senate on Wednesday after lawmakers failed to take up the bill for a vote before the end of the session. The bill, which sought to control how pregnancy centers in the state advertised their pro-life services, had passed in the House.
HB 7070 – An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising Practices of Limited Services Pregnancy Centers was born after a pregnancy center moved into the same building as NARAL Pro-Choice CT. That pro-abortion group saw the pregnancy center’s ad which simply stated, “Pregnant? Need help?” and deemed it “deceptive.”
The bill would have mandated that state pregnancy centers not use “false, misleading, or deceptive” advertising and accused them of having “limited services” simply because they don’t offer abortion — which pro-abortion groups see as the preferred service for an unplanned pregnancy.

However, those pro-life centers offer all of their services free of charge including pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, baby gear, diapers, clothing, and more. Not a single woman filed a complaint about the pregnancy centers. Instead, NARAL’s real concern was that these centers were helping women choose life, which cuts into the profits of abortion facilities.
“The first thing to say about this is Thank you, God! And I say that not just because it’s always the right thing to say but because there is no earthly reason why 2019 should have been the great year for FIC and our allies that it has turned out to be,” said Family Institute of Connecticut President Peter Wolfgang in an email. “This comes on top of assisted suicide being defeated in committee again this year.”
2019 had been shaping up to be a rough year for pro-life groups in the state politically speaking. With pro-abortion politicians winning the last election and the biased support of the media, groups like NARAL were confident that they could get the bill against pregnancy centers passed.
“That their own political allies paid lip service to the anti-pregnancy center cause, while quietly shelving the bill, is a huge humiliation for NARAL,” said Wolfgang.
