Pro-life watchdog group Operation Rescue has received a 911-recording in which a facility worker requested an ambulance for a patient in distress at Little Rock Family Planning in Little Rock, Arkansas. This instance is one of more than 60 times that emergency personnel have been summoned to this particular facility.
The March 29th 911 call is heavily redacted, so the extent of the patient’s emergency is unclear. However, as Operation Rescue points out, abortion facilities only resort to summoning emergency personnel in serious cases. As the patient was transported into the ambulance, people on-site with the local pro-life 40 Days for Life chapter witnessed facility workers holding rainbow umbrellas to conceal the patient’s status.
Through the snippets of unredacted conversation during the 911 call, it is clear that the patient in distress is a female. The dispatcher is also heard asking if there is an AED on site. An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is a machine that sends an electric shock to the heart. It’s often used to get the heart beating after cardiac arrest.

When Operation Rescue received the 911 recording, the group also obtained a screenshot of the call log, which noted that the call’s priority level was “Code 1.” This means that the ambulance was dispatched without lights of sirens — a directive so common among abortion facilities that the city of St. Louis, Missouri, even outlawed the practice, frequently used by the only abortion facility in the state, RHS Planned Parenthood — a facility that has sent at least 74 known women to hospitals since 2009. Many abortion facilities try to conceal that ambulances are called because they don’t want the public to realize how dangerous abortion is.
“We have documented hundreds of medical emergencies at abortion facilities and this is yet another example in the body of evidence that proves abortion is not safe,” said Troy Newman, Operation Rescue’s President. “We also understand that we are not seeing every case of emergency transport. Our records do not include women who are treated in emergency rooms for serious abortion complications after they leave the abortion clinic. As vast as our documentation is, it is only the tip of a very ugly iceberg. Women must understand that when they walk into an abortion facility in Little Rock or anywhere else, they may leave in an ambulance.”
