Pregnancy is one of the most amazing, wonderful things someone can experience, and the joy of bringing a new life into the world is something many people dream of their entire lives. But while there’s much attention paid to what will happen during pregnancy and birth, what women need afterwards is often completely ignored. Many women are left to suffer in silence, with scores of products available at many stores for their babies, but next to nothing for them to help in recovering from childbirth. One new line aims to change that, and this should be welcome news to pro-lifers, who support babies and their moms.
FridaBaby is already well known among parents for its line of products that deals with the messier aspects of parenting. Now, CEO and president Chelsea Hirschhorn is launching FridaMom with the same goal: to handle what she describes as the “non-Instagram-worthy part of parenthood.”
The products include labor and delivery nursing gowns, instant ice maxi pads, upside down peri squirt bottles, disposable underwear, and more. These products are appallingly lacking outside of the hospital, with moms feeling they need to stock up on all the supplies they can get before heading home because they can’t find them anywhere else.
Hirschhorn was inspired after her second pregnancy left her completely unprepared, needing to put together other first-aid items to help her through her recovery because there was nothing available specifically for postpartum mothers. “As women, we’re so accustomed to putting ourselves second in that way,” she told Fast Company. “I don’t think it occurred to women to even voice their complaints about what they were experiencing or the [lack of] recovery products that were available to them because they were so focused on this new role that they had assumed.”

Creating the line took years. “It’s extremely hard to create a line of disposable products to service a need-state that is so short in duration — but so physically and emotionally transformational — at a price point that is universally acceptable to women,” she said. But even though it was difficult, she refused to give up, and the line launched on July 31st. It’s now available across the country at stores like Amazon and Target.
It’s long past time for the difficulties women face during and after pregnancy to be acknowledged. While pregnancy is miraculous and amazing, it’s also very challenging. If a woman has experienced a traumatic pregnancy, it can lead her to seek out an abortion if she gets pregnant again, or if she’s struggling through something like postpartum depression. Pro-abortion writer Jessica Valenti, for example, spoke about having an abortion when she got pregnant for a second time, because her first pregnancy ended in a premature delivery when Valenti developed HELLP syndrome and almost died. Plus-size model Tess Holliday had an abortion while she was still in the throes of postpartum depression.
While the FridaMom line can’t solve these issues, being open and honest about the difficulties women face — and finding ways to address them — is a step in the right direction.
