Operation Rescue is reporting that an ambulance was called by Preterm abortion facility in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 25 for a 24-year-old woman who was having a seizure. This is the sixth time in 2019 that Preterm has needed emergency services, including another incident just 11 days before this most recent one.
According to the computer-aided dispatch printout obtained and posted online by Operation Rescue, EMS workers were told by Preterm to go to the abortion facility’s back door. A pro-life activist at the scene photographed a woman covered in a sheet being placed in the ambulance and an EMS team member spoke with two people in a car, who then followed the ambulance.
Just 11 days earlier, another 24-year-old woman was taken by ambulance from Preterm to the hospital after she began hemorrhaging from an abortion. The woman is said to have been going in and out of consciousness.
Lakisha Wilson and Tia Parks both died after undergoing abortions at Preterm. On March 21, 2014, Wilson suffered “uterine atony” in which the uterus doesn’t contract properly after an abortion and causes hemorrhaging. Wilson went into cardiac arrest after an abortion at Preterm due to blood loss. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy revealed that her death was most likely preventable.

In June 2019, Parks went to Preterm for a first-trimester abortion but the staff there failed to notice she was pregnant with twins and one of the babies was developing in the fallopian tube. She also had an enlarged heart. The fallopian tube ruptured and Parks experienced internal bleeding that ultimately led to her death the day after her abortion.
Just days before Parks’ abortion, the Ohio Department of Health inspected Preterm and found that while the Director of Clinic Operations said she was in charge of infection control, there is no evidence that she was ever actually trained in infection control protocols. In addition, Preterm was cited for failing to keep proper records for two of the women who required ambulance transfers to the hospital in April 2019 for excessive bleeding. The facility also failed to have a physician sign abortion procedure records for two other women and failed to have proper signage in their waiting rooms telling women what to do if someone is forcing them to have an abortion.

Preterm also acts as a training center for abortionists and is affiliated with the Ryan Residency Abortion Training Program. Operation Rescue President Troy Newman believes that the abortion trainees are not being supervised properly when they commit abortions, based on testimony that came up in the licensing issue facing Reproductive Health Services Planned Parenthood in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. As Operation Rescue reports:
That evidence showed that RHS Planned Parenthood’s Medical Director, Colleen McNicholas, who oversees the Ryan Residency Training Program and its Bixby Center-affiliated Fellowship in Family Planning, admitted that she is not in the procedure room when trainees conduct abortions.
Preterm has shown that its abortionists consistently harm women by not taking proper steps to ensure the safety and continued health of their patients. As Newman stated, “[a]n in-depth investigation into these abortion training programs at the Federal level is desperately needed.”
