Planned Parenthood Action rep: Calling abortion anything but health care ‘puts us all in danger’

In a recent trend, abortion activists have been declaring that espousing pro-life views is “violence.”

One example came on the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, as President Biden and Vice President Harris released a joint statement celebrating the “landmark ruling.” The statement lamented the “relentless and extreme attack” of the previous administration on “reproductive health, including the right to choose,” and they pledged to appoint Roe-friendly judges and also to codify the ruling into federal law.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee responded to VP Harris’ tweet linking the statement with his own tweet pointing out a simple fact: “Abortion isn’t healthcare.” In a subsequent tweet, he urged followers to support Hope Clinic, a pregnancy resource center that staffs OBGYNs and nurses and offers a variety of health services.

In response, Francie Hunt, executive director of Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood, an affiliate of Planned Parenthood Action, falsely claimed that the governor’s tweet could lead to violence. “Political violence is a real danger in this country, and when the governor implies that abortion is something other than life-saving health care, it puts us all in danger,” she asserted.

Hunt’s accusation has no basis in reality. An assertion of truth about abortion should never be labeled as putting people in danger, and abortion activists like Hunt are actually inverting the truth. Abortion is the true act of violence, one that not only directly intends to kill an innocent preborn baby, but which also often harms women physically and emotionally. And Governor Lee is correct: abortion isn’t health care and is never medically necessary

This claim comes shortly after an abortionist accused Live Action president and founder Lila Rose of “violent rhetoric” and “domestic terrorism” for tweeting another truth about abortion: “Abortion is violence.” Rose has consistently deplored the use of violence not only against preborn babies and women, but also against those who work in the abortion industry.

Additionally, pro-life values hold that all human life is sacred and should be protected, from conception until natural death. Rather than engaging with arguments, Hunt’s statement claims the mere existence of opinions and values that abhor the intentional taking of life is “violence.” Hers is an effort to intimidate and silence, not to persuade or engage.
