Southern Arizona Regional Health Center Planned Parenthood in Tucson, Arizona, is now closed “until further notice,” according to Operation Rescue and the abortion facility’s website.
This facility committed surgical abortion up to 16 weeks (four months) of pregnancy, and also dispenses the abortion pill. Planned Parenthood spent at least $500,000 renovating the facility with new security features about three years ago, said pro-life activist Bob Pawson — which means it may not stay closed for long. Operation Rescue reported that the facility appears to be planning to reopen in August, yet the online appointment booking feature on the website is disabled.
In May, Planned Parenthood in Tucson called an ambulance to take a patient suffering from “excessive bleeding from the uterus” to the emergency room at a local hospital. A source with knowledge of the incident told Operation Rescue that the call went out either during or after the woman underwent an abortion. Uterine perforation is a major risk during surgical abortions.
In 2009, an undercover investigation by Live Action founder and CEO Lila Rose revealed that the Tucson Planned Parenthood is complicit in child sexual abuse. Rose, posing as a 15-year-old girl, told the staff that she was pregnant by her 27-year-old boyfriend. But the nurse disregarded this abuse, despite the fact that Planned Parenthood is required to report cases of child sexual abuse including statutory rape. Failing to do so is punishable under Arizona law.
“These videos demonstrate that Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, is entrenched in an organization-wide policy of circumventing state law and concealing the sexual abuse of young girls,” Rose said at the time.
That undercover investigation was just the beginning of a decade’s worth of evidence, showing that Planned Parenthood regularly covers up the sexual abuse of minors and protects child abusers. Pawson is calling for other local pro-life activists to continue to pray outside the facility, that it may remain closed permanently.
