Pro-abortion book misleads teens about gruesome D&E ‘dismemberment’ abortions

Michigan, D&E, dismemberment, Texas

The pro-abortion book, “My Body My Choice: The Fight for Abortion Rights,” was written to motivate teens to join the pro-abortion movement. It contains many lies, obfuscations, and euphemisms.

For example, here’s how the book describes a second-trimester D&E abortion procedure — leaving out any real details or potential risks:

Another procedure is called dilation and evacuation, or D&E. It’s generally used for abortions a little later in pregnancy, and it uses both suction and medical instruments to empty the uterus. This takes a little longer – up to 15 minutes.

This is a very misleading and sanitized description. By the second trimester, the baby is fully formed, with all her body parts and organs.

A D&E is also sometimes referred to as “dismemberment abortion” because in this procedure, the abortionist uses forceps to dismember the preborn child, pulling off her arms and legs, then pulling out the rest of the body piece by piece, with the skull being crushed last.

Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino describes this type of abortion:

Former abortion nurse Brenda Pratt-Shafer witnessed a D&E abortion on ultrasound. She watched the baby being dismembered in real-time. In her book, she described what she saw:

Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabbed one of the fetal legs with his forceps. He clamped down hard and with a twisting and tearing motion, ripped the leg from the little body.

He brought it out and threw it in the pan beside me. I stood in horror, as I looked at that little leg in the pan with perfectly formed toes! I had never seen such a small human body part.

The next time he went in, he tore off an arm with hands and little fingers! I could see the fetus on the ultrasound screen trying to get away from the forceps! Then I no longer saw the heartbeat on the ultrasound screen. (The sound was purposely turned off so the mothers could not hear the heartbeat.)

In an interview, Catherine Adair, another former abortion worker, described seeing the dismembered remains of a baby aborted by D&E:

We did second-trimester abortions there…. I went in and they hadn’t taken the baby out of the room yet and I stood there looking at this jar with these body parts in shock. And I sort of backed out of the room not sure if I had really seen what I had seen.…

Because this was a baby – I could see hands, I could see feet. This was a person. This was a human being.

Adair thought of quitting right then and there but didn’t. She eventually left the facility and became pro-life.

Former abortionist Joseph Randall said of D&E, “[T]he babies are bigger. They are visible, they are fully-formed babies, and you are tearing them apart from below.”

A former abortion worker interviewed by Last Days Ministries also described a D&E:

The doctor was pulling out arms and legs and all kinds of things. And the procedure took about 45 minutes. The woman was in extreme pain and very upset. I freaked out and left the room. I was getting faint, so I sat down and put my head between my legs, trying to get myself together.

All the nurses gathered around, telling me, “Don’t think about it. Don’t worry about it. It’s not that bad. “Think of this poor woman if she had to keep this baby. Look at how we’re helping her.” The doctor came out and said, “You did a good job. You’re going to be a fine assistant.” That’s the day I closed my eyes to what was going on around me.

She said, “The biggest thing they want to do is hide all that from the mother. If she knew then she might say “no.”
