Planned Parenthood where patient died expands in new location

The Planned Parenthood Loop Health Center in Illinois has expanded in preparation of the expected increase in out-of-state patients. The doors of 16 N. Wabash Avenue opened on February 14, 2022. The new location offers larger waiting rooms, four additional consultation rooms, and larger exam rooms. The facility is now centrally located near public transportation and both Chicago airports.

“Year over year, we have seen growing numbers of abortion restrictions enacted across the nation, as well as growing numbers of out-of-state patients coming to Illinois for care,” said Jennifer Welch, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois.

On its website, Planned Parenthood of Illinois said, “The move is part of PPIL’s preparation for an increase in out-of-state abortion patients as the Supreme Court appears poised to overturn Roe v. Wade this year, which means every state that borders Illinois could quickly ban abortion.”

According to Abortiondocs.org, the Loop location currently only offers the abortion pill, instead of surgical abortions up to 18 weeks, as it previously advertised. Surgical procedures are no longer committed at this location, where 24-year-old Tonya Reaves died on July 12, 2012. An autopsy revealed that Reaves died as a result of hemorrhage following a dilation and evacuation abortion (D&E). In a stunning display of gross negligence, Reaves was left to bleed to death for five hours before Planned Parenthood called for help; the autopsy report found that she could have survived, had she received proper medical care in time. Reaves’ death occurred not long after a Chicago Tribune report, which found that Illinois abortionists are not reporting complications, violating Illinois law.

The abortion pill is reported to be four times as dangerous to women as surgical abortion, though the abortion industry has often claimed it is “safer than Tylenol.” The pill regimen comes with a risk of hemorrhage, and reports have shown that at least 5-6% of women who take the pill end up needing emergency care.

WomensHealthComesFirst.com, a project of Illinois Right for Life, notes that Planned Parenthood’s Loop Health Center has never received a full health inspection, or any health or safety inspections by IDPH. The new location will also not be subject to inspection.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), in 2020, 36,174 Illinois residents had abortions in Illinois, while approximately 10,000 of Illinois abortions were performed on women from other states. The number of out-of-state abortion-seekers increased dramatically since 2010, when about 3,000 women entered the state for abortions.
