$50 million in abortion funding
New York Attorney General Letitia James has proposed a $50 million fund that is now before the New York State Assembly where it was introduced by Jessica González-Rojas. The fund would pay for abortions but would also pay the travel costs of women from out of state who travel to New York for abortions.
Assembly Bill A10148, or the “Reproductive Freedom and Equity Program Act,” is currently in committee and defines abortion as essential health care that is “integral” to women. The bill notes that on January 22, 2019, the state law on abortion was “modernized” to say that every person has a “fundamental right to abortion.” But the bill states that despite “a constitutional and state right to abortion,” barriers still exist and pro-abortion legislators want those barriers removed. It states that there are costs to traveling for abortion and that “immigrants, young people, people with disabilities and those living in rural areas” may not be able to afford the costs, so the state will cover the costs for them.
Rather than use $50 million to help lift women and children out of poverty, New York legislators want to spend it on killing the babies of underprivileged women, which will help to ensure that certain populations are kept from reproducing.

Senate Bill S7002 states that “provision be made for pregnancy termination procedures in every individual or group policy or contract which provides coverage or indemnity for hospital, surgical, or medical care and which offers maternity care coverage.” This, states the bill, will “provide all New Yorkers with the opportunity to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.”
But abortion is never medically necessary — not to save the life or health of the mother and certainly not when the child is diagnosed with a disability. And “fulfilling” one’s life by killing defenseless human beings — one’s own children — is a simply jaw-dropping notion.
Abortion is not fulfilling, but actually increases a woman’s risk of mental health concerns such as depression and suicidal thoughts. New York legislators seem focused on one thing: expanding abortion to ensure that low-income women and immigrants feel that abortion is their best — and perhaps only — choice.
