Last year, Live Action News reported that an Ohio abortionist had launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise $50,000 to open an abortion facility in Illinois. Now, news reports reveal that the proposed late-term abortion facility is slated to open on February 11th.
According to its website, Equity Clinic in Champaign will offer same-day appointments and weekend hours as well as financial assistance to individuals requiring help with “transportation, lodging and procedure cost.” It will also be a training center for abortionists. “Equity Clinic provides high-quality, compassionate reproductive health care, including first- and second-trimester abortions and contraception, while ensuring future access to care by teaching learners within our practice.”
While local news reports omitted the detail, Equity Clinic will provide the abortion pill through 10 weeks gestation as well as surgical abortions up to 23 weeks and 6 days gestation, at the gestational age when many children can survive outside the womb with appropriate medical care, though babies as young as 21 weeks have survived.
At 23 weeks, babies are around 11 inches long and weigh over a pound, according to the popular pregnancy website What to Expect. Abortion this late in pregnancy has to be done by dilation & evacuation (D&E) abortion. Also known as dismemberment abortion, this procedure involves the child being torn apart limb by limb inside the womb.
Abortion at this gestational age is also much riskier for the mother. This study found “that a woman’s risk of death from abortion increased by 38% for each additional week of gestation” after eight weeks. Risks include uterine wall perforation, damage to nearby organs, cervical injury, incomplete abortion, infection, and hemorrhage, potentially requiring a hysterectomy.
Equity Clinic’s main provider will be Dr. Keith Reisinger-Kindle. Dr. Reisinger-Kindle is currently employed by Women’s Med Dayton, an Ohio abortion facility with a troubling history that includes safety violations and injuring women.
Dr. Reisinger-Kindle himself was listed as the ordering physician for five patients in a four-month timespan in 2022 who experienced failed chemical abortions and subsequently underwent surgical abortions due to ongoing pregnancies (four of the cases) or retained clots (one of the cases).
Documentation provided by Women’s Med Dayton to the State Medical Board of Ohio in accordance with state law showed that in one of the four cases of ongoing pregnancy, the ongoing pregnancy was not addressed for five weeks, at which point the patient underwent a second-trimester D&E abortion.
The opening of Equity Clinic is one way Illinois continues to respond to the alleged “soaring demand” for abortions after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The state has wholeheartedly embraced its status as an abortion tourism destination, and Governor JB Pritzker recently signed legislation promising to expedite license applications for out-of-state nurses and other healthcare staff specifically seeking to provide abortions in the state. The legislation further “shields” from legal liability healthcare providers who lost their licenses in other states for illegally assisting with or performing abortions. The law also enables nurse practitioners and physician assistants to perform suction aspiration or suction D&C abortions, despite safety concerns that these healthcare professionals do not have the training to handle complications that will inevitably arise.
