On Thursday, March 7, 2013, pro-life individuals from around the state of Wisconsin gathered for a Day at the Capitol.
Gualberto Garcia Jones, Legislative Counsel for Personhood USA, spoke to the group about the personhood initiative on both a state level and a national level. Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, explained:
The U.S. Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade said that if the personhood of the preborn child is established, the legal case for abortion collapses. Gualberto will explain that Wisconsin is not alone in efforts to protect preborn children through personhood. Wisconsin and other states are moving beyond simply regulating the killing of preborn children. Our shared goal is to eliminate the killing of preborn children, and personhood is how we must do it.
The group met with the legislative director for Pro-Life Wisconsin, who explained to attendees “how to build a relationship with legislators and engage them on pro-life issues in a respectful and effective way.” They were able to put this knowledge into practice when they went to the Capitol to meet with their representatives and senators.
Additionally, the co-authors of the Wisconsin Personhood Amendment, Representative Andre Jacque and Senator Glenn Grothman, met with the group.
Peggy Hamill told Live Action that she considers the day a success:
God blessed us richly, and our 2013 Day at the Capitol was a wonderful success. We left refreshed and further educated and inspired to continue the fight for personhood in our State.
