Kermit Gosnell’s trial for murdering seven newborn abortion survivors and one woman is underway, but most of America probably doesn’t even know it, because the mainstream media has been uncharacteristically quiet. For a group of people who love to show us war, murder, and other horrific events in our world, they seem to be oddly silent regarding this horrible story of a man who killed seven babies by digging scissors into their spinal cords. But it isn’t odd if you consider that the man on trial is an abortion provider. As Mark Steyn wrote in his piece “The Unmourned“:
This is a remarkable moment in American life: A man is killing actual living, gurgling, bouncing babies on an industrial scale – and it barely makes the papers. Had he plunged his scissors into the spinal cord of a Democrat politician in Arizona, then The New York Times, ABC, CBS, NBC and everyone else would be linking it to Sarah Palin’s uncivil call for dramatic cuts in government spending. But “Doctor” Kermit Gosnell’s mound of corpses is apparently entirely unconnected to the broader culture.
But even when the media takes a moment to mention this horrific crime and the current trial of the alleged murderer, they make a faux pas like this one, by Associated Press writer MaryClaire Dale:
She [Moton, a Gosnell employee] once had to kill a baby delivered in a toilet, cutting its neck with scissors, she said. Asked if she knew that it was wrong, she said, ‘At first I didn’t.’
Abortions are typically performed in utero.
What? “Abortions are typically performed in utero”? Translated, this means that, according to Dale, abortions are sometimes performed outside the uterus, as in after a baby is born. Is that legal now? It might be Dale’s opinion that “after-birth abortions” should be legal, but they are not, at least not currently. Currently, killing a baby outside the womb is punishable by law. There’s even the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which is supposed to legally protect babies born alive after an abortion from “doctors” like Gosnell.
Implying, in a national news piece, as Dale did, that abortions can sometimes be performed outside the uterus plants the lie in the minds of the American people that Gosnell simply performed standard abortions. It implies that nothing illegal was done. It implies that killing a newborn baby because she was supposed to be aborted is normal and acceptable. It implies that Gosnell isn’t a cruel, selfish man who took the lives of seven oxygen-breathing newborns.
Let me say that again. The man (allegedly) killed seven newborn, completely viable babies by stabbing them and cutting their spinal cords with scissors.
Where are the cameras? Where are the news vans? Where are the masses of outraged Americans who should be glued to their televisions like they were for Casey Anthony or Sandy Hook? And why are people implying that what the man did was tolerable, allowable, and even supportable?
Gosnell’s trial shouldn’t be about whether what he and his staff did was murder or not. It should be about the fact that murders were committed, and the DA needs to prove Gosnell is the murderer. But most of the media is hiding it, some of the media is protecting him, his lawyers are calling the prosecution racist, and Americans don’t seem to know what’s happening at all – regarding abortion as a whole or the Gosnell case in particular. So, with all that, how will justice ever be served for those seven babies and the rest of our 50 million-plus terminated children? Even if Gosnell is convicted, there could easily be another abortionist out there right now doing the same thing, and American media seems unperturbed by that.
