Lizzo slams Nebraska’s new pro-life law

Lizzo, abortion

Last week, Nebraska lawmakers passed a bill protecting preborn children from abortion after 12 weeks gestation, and Monday, it was signed into law by Governor Jim Pillen. Over the weekend, hip-hop star Lizzo performed in Omaha, where she slammed the legislation and expressed her support for abortion.

A video captured by a fan showed Lizzo stopping the concert to talk about the bill, called the “Let Them Grow Act.” Before the bill was passed, abortion was legal in Nebraska through 20 weeks gestation; it is now limited to the first trimester but includes exceptions for rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother (though an abortion, which is the direct and intentional killing of a preborn child, is never medically necessary). A heartbeat bill, which would have protected virtually all preborn children from abortion in Nebraska, failed to pass. As it is, the vast majority of abortions will be able to continue in Nebraska under this legislation.

@emh153 “It really breaks my heart that there are young people growing up in a world that doesnt protect them.” Lizzo spoke out about Nebraska passing an anti-trans and anti-abortion bill last night. “There have been some anti-trans laws passed, and some anti-abortion laws passed,” she said as the crowd cheered. “And anybody who comes to a Lizzo show should know that I am for people to have the right to health care, reproductive and gender-affirming!”

She then added that it “breaks my heart” that young people are growing up in a world “that doesn’t protect them.” Presumably, she did not consider the youngest people — preborn children — who will continue to not be protected in Nebraska, as the majority of abortions are committed in the first trimester.

Lizzo has previously promoted abortion, including by putting abortion activists into the spotlight on numerous occasions. She has called abortion a form of “liberation,” and said it is a form of health care — but it is not.

Health care does not include the intentional and direct killing of human beings, which happens in every single instance of abortion. Additionally, women are also coerced and pressured into abortions, leaving them with deep pain and regret — not liberated or empowered.
