A British couple has won £100,770 (approximately $124,000 USD) in the lottery — and the two say they plan to use the money to foster children.
Mark and Kathleen Reece have wanted to become foster parents for years, according to Not the Bee, but with three biological children at home, they felt they didn’t have the space to do so. Mark decided to buy a EuroMillions ticket, and while he was out buying milk, he asked his wife to check the winning ticket. When Kathleen checked the ticket number and saw he had won, she didn’t quite believe it. She had long been frustrated by Mark’s weekly lottery efforts.
The couple’s daughter helped her double-check the numbers. “We called out the winning numbers to each other and, as the realization of what this meant hit us, we sat there in disbelief,” said Kathleen.

“I decided to call the number on the back of the ticket and was talking to the lady from The National Lottery when Mark came home with the milk. I told him to shush, as I was on the phone to The National Lottery. His jaw dropped. He looked at me in disbelief so I put the phone on speaker and the lady confirmed we’d won £100,770,” said Kathleen.
With the money, Mark and Kathleen, both in their 40s, want to convert their garage into an additional bedroom so they can begin to foster children. They say they can’t think of a better way to spend the money.
“I’ve always wanted to foster children,” said Kathleen. “Mark and I discussed it many years ago and then we had our own.”
She added, “My three kids will be leaving home soon and I have too much love to give,” said Kathleen. “I’ve always wanted to foster, however having enough space has always been an issue. Thanks to the win it’ll no longer be a problem. I’m so happy we can finally fulfill our dream.”
