Hailey Bieber joins campaign for Planned Parenthood despite pro-life family ties

Model Hailey Bieber has taken to Instagram to promote Planned Parenthood, alongside notoriously vocal pro-abortion activist Chelsea Handler — despite the fact that Bieber is surrounded in her own family by pro-life individuals who oppose abortion.

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s top abortion business, committing 41% of all abortions in the United States.

In Bieber’s Stories, the two appeared together, both sporting “I’m for Planned Parenthood” tops, with a caption reading:

For 107 years, Planned Parenthood has been there. From rallying in the streets for reproductive rights to being a trusted provider of sexual & reproductive health care & info – even with a critical case jeopardizing access in Texas. Proud to be in this fight with them. Join us. #ImWithPP

In the video, Handler claimed Planned Parenthood was being “falsely accused” of Medicaid fraud; the case stems from a 2016 legal battle in which Planned Parenthood was removed as a Texas Medicaid provider. Attorney General Ken Paxton then sought to recover the funds dispensed to Planned Parenthood during that legal battle. “It is unthinkable that Planned Parenthood would continue to take advantage of funding knowing they were not entitled to keep it,” Paxton said in a statement announcing the lawsuit last year. “I will not allow them to benefit from this abhorrent conduct after they were caught violating medical standards and lying to law enforcement.”

Additionally, in 2013, Planned Parenthood was fined for fraudulently overbilling Medicaid. “Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast improperly billed the Texas Medicaid program for products and services that were never actually rendered, not medically necessary, and were not covered by the Medicaid program – and were therefore not eligible for reimbursement,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement at the time.

Similar fraudulent activity took place in numerous other states, including Wisconsin and Iowa, where Planned Parenthood was accused of patient abuses, the “unbundling” of services, and fraudulently tallying patients. A report from the U.S. House of Representatives also found that Planned Parenthood abused taxpayer funds by giving money to their political action fund for lobbying, travel, themed fundraisers, and lavish parties.

Bieber continued the video by saying she supports Planned Parenthood because “everyone deserves access to the health care they need.” Though Bieber herself has not been as vocal about abortion as Handler, she is surrounded by those who are pro-life… including within her own family.

Her husband, pop star Justin Bieber, has spoken against abortion, telling Rolling Stone, “I really don’t believe in abortion. I think [an embryo] is a human. It’s like killing a baby.” His mother, Pattie Mallette, is also vocally pro-life, and has said that she was pressured to have an abortion while pregnant with Bieber, and was helped through the pregnancy by a pro-life pregnancy resource center. Mallette also helped to produce a pro-life film about the life of Beethoven.

Stephen Baldwin, Hailey’s father, is likewise openly pro-life. “The Bible’s very clear,” he said in an interview with Faithwire. “The Word never changes. […] You can’t be pro-choice and call yourself a follower of Jesus Christ.”
