A New Jersey bill requiring parental approval before a minor can join social media has garnered opposition… from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business.
Last November, Democrat Herb Conaway introduced a bill that would require children in New Jersey to have parental approval to use social media, including required verification of the adult’s age. “We have to get a hold of this,” Conaway told NJ Advance Media at the time. “Everyone in our country should be alarmed in the rising prevalence of mental illness among our children. Much of it can be laid at the feet of social media. The government has to step in and act responsibly.”
Numerous organizations, like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), oppose the bill, and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey likewise issued a press release condemning the bill. They argue that numerous at-risk children need access to social media.
“Any restrictions to accessing the internet will cut off entire populations – oftentimes the most vulnerable populations – who need access to information,” said Planned Parenthood Action Fund. It claims that this includes:
- LGBTQ+ youth who may not have supportive parents or guardians may be cut off from access to mental health support, community, and information regarding their health, resources which have been proven to be critical for many in the LGBTQ+ community.
- Patients [in this case minors] seeking reproductive healthcare may want to be anonymous when seeking out health care organizations, information and resources, which often happens on social media platforms.

As the Live Action News Selling Sex in Schools series exposed, Planned Parenthood has had a vested interest in grooming children for early sexual activity. Children have been given so-called “sex ed” through child-focused cartoons that encouraged sexual activity, contraception, and — of course — abortion. As Live Action News researcher Bettina DiFiore wrote, the goal is clearly “to normalize abortion and glamorize sex — especially casual, ‘no-strings’ sex — in the minds of your children, all while selling them contraception.”
By selling sex to children at younger and younger ages, Planned Parenthood can create future customers — children who will come to Planned Parenthood for STD treatments, birth control, and abortion, all of which would profit the abortion giant. And as usual, they don’t want parents involved. Social media definitely does give Planned Parenthood the opportunity to reach a vulnerable population — children — without the knowledge or approval of their parents, and Conaway’s bill threatens that.
