Bindi Irwin: We’d be ‘blessed’ to have another baby, but it likely won’t happen

Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin, recently appeared with her husband Chandler Powell on the Australia Zoo YouTube channel to do a Q&A with fans. During that Q&A, she answered one of her most often asked questions: if she and her husband are planning to have a second child.

Powell read the question, “Are you two planning on having another child?”

The couple both smirked before Irwin asked him, “How often do we get asked that question? Daily.”

She added, “I have a lot of feelings about this question,” and asked Powell to answer first.

“We get asked this question a lot, and a lot of you may already know Bindi went through a big journey with endometriosis — and basically it was an absolute miracle that we had Grace, and we love Grace so much and are reveling in every little moment with her,” he said. “We are so happy with our little family of three.”

Irwin added, “I just do want to send it out there that, be careful when you ask this question, because you never know what’s happening in someone’s life — in a family’s world. You know, everything may seem fine on the outside, and on the inside, their own personal journey might’ve been filled with turmoil and challenges that you can’t even fathom.”

She continued, “While I understand why a lot of people ask us this question, and I appreciate the kindness and good intent behind it, it’s also a really tricky question for so many, many people who maybe can’t have another baby — can’t have a baby at all.”

She added that they are “very lucky to have Grace” and that she is “our beautiful girl but she will probably be our one child.”

It isn’t necessarily because the couple doesn’t want to have more children, but because that may not be where life takes them due to their infertility struggles. However, according to Irwin, they would welcome more children.

“She will be our one child, but you never know… maybe we will be blessed with another little one down the road,” she said. “That would be incredible, but yeah, who knows…”

Fans present at the Q&A thanked Irwin for her honest and heartfelt response.

“Thank you for the way you replied to the fertility question,” said one. “As someone who has had to deal with being questioned about having children ever since getting married and dealing with four miscarriages and a long journey with autoimmune disease, this message needs to be shared more to those who don’t think about how these questions impact people.”

The couple’s daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, was born on March 25, 2021. In March 2023, Irwin revealed that she has endometriosis, which can make it more difficult to become pregnant. After she shared her diagnosis and the treatment she had been going through, she said, “Please be gentle & pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children. After all my body has gone through, I feel tremendously grateful that we have our gorgeous daughter. She feels like our family’s miracle.”
