Pro-abortion female minister: ‘If Jesus were here today, He would be an abortion clinic escort’

Presbyterian minister and member of Planned Parenthood’s clergy advocacy board, Rebecca Todd Peters, has delivered another sermon promoting abortion, claiming that Jesus would have called abortion “sacred” and “blessed.” The entirety of Peters’ focus in preaching appears to be centered around abortion, and how she desires to spread the idea that killing preborn children is a “moral good.”

Peters gave a recent sermon arguing that Jesus would not only support the killing of preborn human beings by abortion, but that He would actively participate in it.

“If Jesus were here today, He would be a clinic escort, distracting women from the hatred of the protesters,” she said. “Or an abortion doula, holding women’s hands and offering support and love as they end their pregnancies. And I expect he would have a stern word for self-righteous legislators who use abortion as a political issue, rather than showing compassion for the people seeking abortions.”

Furthermore, she continued, “If Jesus were giving His sermon today, He might also have said, Blessed are those who end pregnancies, for they will be known for their loving kindness.”

Abortions are presented as “sacred” and “holy”

Peters mentioned her own two abortions in the message, which she has discussed before. In a sermon given last year, she claimed that God was with her while she had those abortions. “I, too, feel that I am known by God in these ways, as a woman who has borne two children. I can affirm that I felt something sacred happening in my gestating body during those pregnancies,” she said. “I can also attest that I felt God’s presence with me as I made the decision to end two pregnancies and I felt no guilt, no shame, no sin … [a] forced pregnancy or birth is not holy.”

This time, Peters again tried to portray her decision to have two abortions as something holy, saying, “Each of my reproductive decisions, to have children and not to have children, were sacred decisions, because they reflect the moral responsibility of reproductive power that is part of our inheritance as human creatures.”

In other words, Peters believes that any decision that is made (a person exercises free will) regarding reproduction is a sacred one, because humans were given free will (the ability to act as moral agents) by God.

Of course, if we take this out of the context of reproduction, it makes little sense to act as if any decision a human being makes is somehow sacred simply because they are acting out their free will. In addition, if “reproductive power” (“be fruitful and multiply”) is part of humanity’s inheritance, so too is “subjugating” or “dominating” the earth and all animal life upon it, as noted in Genesis 1:28. Surely this does not mean, however, that any manner of humanity’s subjugation or domination over nature (for example: pollution, extreme deforestation, or hunting animals to extinction) is automatically morally good or sacred.

Peters generated past controversy for claiming that God “lied” to Adam and Eve, which is why abortion is a moral good — and further said that the serpent (widely believed to be a manifestation of the devil, or to represent him) was actually working to enlighten and empower Eve.

Scripture is clear on the humanity of children in the womb

There are numerous instances in scripture in which the killing of preborn children is directly condemned. Proverbs 6 says that “hands that shed innocent blood” are something “the Lord hates.” Exodus 23:7 and Matthew 5:21 both condemn murder — the intentional taking of a human life, while numerous verses specifically note the humanity of the preborn — one which has been cited by Peters herself: Psalm 139:

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place,

when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body;

all the days ordained for me were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

In Luke 1, the preborn John the Baptist “leaped” in his mother Elizabeth’s womb upon hearing Mary’s voice; in the book of Job, Job’s life is traced from the point of conception. Jeremiah 20:17 specifically states, “For he did not kill me in the womb, with my mother as my grave, her womb enlarged forever.”

Jesus extends forgiveness and mercy to all who repent (turn away from their sin) — including those who have taken innocent human life… which includes women who have had abortions.

“… God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” according to Romans 5:8. But this verse tells us that human beings do, indeed, sin. We are moral agents who can choose to do good, or choose to do evil. But the act of choosing is not in itself a sacred act. God does not “bless” evil actions and does not call them “sacred.”

No, Jesus would not support or condone the intentional killing of innocent human beings made in His image by abortion. He would not escort women into abortion facilities and encourage them to kill their preborn children, who are also human, and whom He loves just as much as He loves their mothers and fathers. But He does see them in their sinful acts, and in their pain, and in their lost state of being… and He pursues them lovingly so that they might find Him and be healed and made whole, as many, many, many post-abortive men and women have done.

It seems clear from Peters’ sermons that what she worships is not God, but abortion — possibly even at the expense of her own soul.
