According to the Daily Compass, a news channel in France has been fined for sharing the truth about abortion being one of the leading causes of death in the world.
The French Media Regulatory Authority (ARCOM) imposed a fine of 100,000 euros ($105,000) on CNews after guests on one of its programs said that abortion is the leading cause of death globally. The show and its anchor, Aymeric Pourbaix, displayed an infographic that showed the top causes of death around the world in the year 2022. Abortion was listed as the leading cause of death, with 73 million preborn babies killed annually; this amounts to 52% of all deaths, well ahead of the second leading cause of death: cancer, at 10 million deaths.
Though that number of deaths by abortion is accurate and is sourced from the World Health Organization, ARCOM said CNews failed in its “obligation of honesty and rigour in the presentation and handling of information.”
The show, En quete d’esprit (In Quest of Spirit), aired the episode on February 25. Afterward, CNews was heavily criticized and accused of being a dangerous broadcaster that shared biased information. CNews eventually apologized, saying the infographic should not have been displayed on the screen.
On November 13, ARCOM determined that the channel was not allowed to call abortion a cause of death, exposing how powerful the movement behind legalized abortion is and how desperately it wants to control what people think about abortion — including the false idea that abortion doesn’t end human lives.
“Abortion cannot be presented as a cause of mortality,” claimed ARCOM.
Jean-Marie Le Méné, a medical doctor and head of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation, an organization dedicated to the defense of patients with intellectual disabilities, condemned ARCOM for imposing the fine. He wrote (emphasis added):
After having desacralized human life by elevating abortion to constitutional dignity, it remained to frame the way of speaking about it in the Orwellian logic of the Ministry of Truth [from “1984”]. This is what Arcom has just done, on November 13, 2024, with a historic decision relating to the program En quête d’esprit broadcast on CNews on February 25, 2024 during which the presenter had indicated that abortion constituted ‘the leading cause of mortality in the world.’
Indeed, equating an aborted child with a deceased person would make abortion a homicidal act. In order for it to be possible to practice it with a clear conscience, it is therefore forbidden to say that abortion takes away life. Otherwise the keystone of the system collapses. Abortion must remain harmless. But who believes this fiction?
Neither the caregiver who inventories the organs of the dismantled child, nor the woman who mourns him in secret, nor the town hall that will be able to register him in the civil registry in the event of a medical termination of pregnancy think that abortion does not kill anyone.
“Abortion, the ‘leading cause of death in the world’ is unfortunately a fact, not an opinion,” he said, calling ARCOM’s decision “unreasonable” and “an attack on freedom.”
