Cambodian women sue farm manager, alleging abuse and forced abortion

A group of Cambodian women have sued the manager of a strawberry farm in Japan, saying he sexually abused them and forced one of them to have an abortion.

In a press conference, the three women said they were repeatedly raped and abused by the 58-year-old man, who has not been named. One of the women, who is 23 years old, said she specifically was forced to have an abortion after being raped nearly every day for five months straight. The woman said if she refused to have sex, the manager would threaten to deport them all back to Cambodia. Worse, the woman who was forced into an abortion said she was given a consent form in Japanese for the procedure, which she did not understand.

The other two women said the man repeatedly groped and assaulted them.

All three women reported the abuse to a labor union in Gifu Prefecture before quitting their jobs; they were technical trainees, positions that left them vulnerable, they said. Though they went to the police to file charges, prosecutors refused to press charges. As a result, they have resorted to filing a lawsuit, requesting compensation for emotional distress and unpaid overtime wages, due to what they described as violations of their human rights.

The woman forced into an abortion said she is speaking out to prevent this from happening to other women. “I was very scared, but I was even more scared to think that I would be sent back to Cambodia,” she said. “I had borrowed money to come to Japan and could not leave, so I endured it in silence. Please help me so that there will be no more victims like me.”

Abortion is a common tool used by abusers to keep their crimes a secret, including in the United States. The abortion industry not only appears to know about the crimes but is compliant with them. Live Action’s Aiding Abusers investigation found a systemic, decades-long cover-up of child sexual abuse at Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, and covered sex trafficking, recorded cases, interviews with former workers, and more. Additionally, real-life predators are known to have been aided by Planned Parenthood, with staffers encouraging traffickers and abusers to pose as the parents of minors and lie about the ages of their victims.
