Trump administration may freeze ‘family planning’ funding to Planned Parenthood

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Trump administration is taking action to potentially freeze family planning grants to organizations like Planned Parenthood as it investigates DEI initiatives. This has the potential to remove $20 million in funding from the abortion giant.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said it is reviewing grant recipients to ensure they are in compliance with Trump’s executive orders. Planned Parenthood president and CEO Alexis McGill-Johnson responded by claiming removing funding from the abortion corporation would deprive women of legitimate health care.

“The Trump-Vance-Musk administration wants to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers by any means necessary, and they’ll end people’s access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more to do it,” she said.

And yet, far from a provider upon which the majority of women rely, Planned Parenthood serves just 2% of women of reproductive age in the United States. Planned Parenthood has put a lot of effort into marketing itself as a legitimate health care provider, but even its own annual reports have made it clear that, year after year, those health care services — like cancer screenings — are dwindling. Over the past decade, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers have hit record highs while the corporation’s legitimate health care services have plummeted. As Live Action News previously reported, based on Planned Parenthood’s annual reports:

… [O]ver the past 10 years, excess revenue over spending (profit) at the abortion corporation ballooned from $58.2 million to $178.6 million — an increase of nearly 207%.

Healthcare services at Planned Parenthood also decreased over the past decade:

    • Total services decreased over 16%, from 10.9 million to 9.1 million.
    • Clients decreased by 30%, from 3 million to 2.1 million.
    • Facilities decreased by 25%, from 800 to 600.
    • Donors decreased nearly 14%, from 669,000 to 576,000.
    • Prenatal care decreased a whopping 68%, from 19,506 prenatal services to just 6,316.
    • Contraceptive services decreased nearly 40%, from 3.7 million to 2.2 million.
    • Cancer screenings and prevention services plummeted nearly 59%, from 1.1 million to just over 464,000.
    • Breast care (not including mammograms, which Planned Parenthood does not perform) dropped nearly 62%, from 549,804 to 212,655.
    • Pap tests decreased nearly 60%, from 492,365 to 197,617.
    • Adoption referrals decreased nearly 22%, from 2,197 to 1,721.

Most starkly, in just the past decade, Planned Parenthood has committed about 3.8 million abortions while receiving over $6.5 billion in taxpayer funding.

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood has followed a blueprint to ensure it receives increasing amounts of taxpayer dollars despite its significant drop in health care services. And for what purpose, if they aren’t providing legitimate health care?

Planned Parenthood has committed over 7.1 million abortions since 2000, with the number of abortions committed rising year after year while health care services fall. They commit an average of more than 1,000 abortions every single day, while raking in nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding each year. Sixty-two (62) abortions are committed at Planned Parenthood for every one woman who receives prenatal care from the corporation, and it has moved to become an industry leader in “gender affirming care,” offering “hormone replacement, puberty blockers, and even surgery referrals” to a reported “1 in 6 U.S. teens and young adults who sought gender hormones” in 2023, as reported by insurance data. And for many years, the abortion giant has repeatedly failed child victims of sexual abuse and trafficking.

The question is not whether or not Trump should strip Planned Parenthood of funding. It’s why he hasn’t done it yet.
