Republican lawmakers ask FBI to investigate the deaths of the ‘D.C. Five’

Two Republican lawmakers have sent a letter asking FBI Director Kash Patel to investigate the five nearly full-term babies found in a medical waste bin outside a Washington, D.C., abortion facility in March 2022.

The letter, sent by Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Andy Biggs of Arizona, says the Biden administration “departed from its core public safety mission, suffered from senior leadership failures, and refused any real transparency or accountability for its actions,” in refusing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the remains of the five aborted preborn babies.

The babies, known as the “D.C. Five,” were found by pro-life activists Lauren Handy and Terrisa Bukovinac in a plastic bag underneath the remains of 110 babies aborted in the first trimester. These remains were obtained from the driver of a medical waste truck picking up outside the Washington Surgi-Center abortion facility, where notorious abortionist Cesare Santangelo kills preborn children.

In a 2013 Live Action undercover investigation, Santangelo noted that his method of killing preborn babies does not involve use of an injected feticide, but instead, he cuts the umbilical cord and waits for the child to die by cardiac arrest. He also said if a child survived an abortion at his facility, he and his staff “would not help it” to ensure survival.

Experts have stated that the five babies were likely old enough to have survived outside the womb. One of the babies, named “Harriet” by the activists who found her, had an incision on the back of her neck that experts felt may indicate the use of the federally banned D&X abortion procedure, more commonly referred to as “partial-birth abortion.” There is also concern that other babies found with Harriet might have been born alive.

Despite numerous requests during the time of the Biden administration to investigate these suspicious deaths, the Department of Justice and D.C. authorities refused. Roy and Biggs appear hopeful that under new leadership, the FBI will now look into whether or not the children were victims of ‘partial-birth’ abortion, writing:

As we continue to conduct our investigation into the District of Columbia’s enforcement of the Partial-Birth Abortion Act and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, serious questions remain surrounding the deaths of these children. We write to request that the FBI review the decision not to move forward with an investigation and the Biden Harris’s apparent decision not to enforce the Partial-Birth Abortion Act and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

Roy spoke to The Daily Wire about his letter.

“Very strong evidence suggests the ‘DC Five’ unborn children were killed within miles of our US Capitol building,” he said. “I have sent a friendly letter to our Department of Justice aiming to get answers about why the Biden Administration did not investigate this brutal and likely illegal act, as well as the apparent decision not to enforce the Partial-Birth Abortion Act and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.”

“I am confident the current leadership at the DOJ and FBI will take action to defend life in our nation’s capital and to ensure that these five babies receive justice,” he added.
