Roughly 10,000 lives have been saved from abortion due to the prayerful efforts of David Bereit’s 40 Days for Life campaign. Leah, a 4-year-old girl, is one of these lives.
As a pregnant 19-year-old, Leah’s mother was scared and seriously considering abortion. While heading to an abortion facility, she drove by the local 40 Days for Life campaign. Moved to tears by the overwhelming power of prayer, Leah’s mother chose life.
Four years later at OneLifeLA rally, Bereit shared Leah’s story, and then welcomed her and her mother onto the stage to a crowd of 15,000 pro-lifers. Leah’s shirt read: “Your prayers saved my life.”
The 40 Days for Life campaign, started in 2004 by Bereit, has saved at least 10,000 children from abortion, and is a beautiful testament to the transformative power of prayer. Bereit has only met five of these children, but each has affirmed that prayer is truly impacting and saving lives.
“To be able to see that child means so much,” Bereit said. “I got to meet that one life that was saved because of the prayers of faithful people.”
Leah’s life is a testimony of hope and prayer. Her beautiful life shows us that prayers do matter.
Bereit said: “Seeing the positive fruit of people’s prayers, of what God can do, and also continually allowing our hearts to be broken – those two things keep me engaged with the individual and the need.”
The goal of the pro-life movement is to not protect the preborn, but transform hearts and minds. To do this, we must foster prayerful hearts, and always remain champions of truth.
