People were able to look at Gosnell as some aberration of humanity, the twisted and misshapen monster that hulks onto the scene of our consciousness and inhabits our more conventional nightmares. He was, quite literally, a butcher. He was prosecuted as a criminal, and is now paying for his crimes.
But the people at Planned Parenthood are a more subtle and therefore more dangerous challenge to our humanity. We’ve allowed them to act like a legitimate business, and have cloaked them with the mantle of “Protectors of Women.” They have forced us to swallow some fallacy about abortion being a “reproductive right.” They are, in many ways, part of the mainstream.
And that is where the true danger exists. Evil can be overt, or it can be hidden behind a pleasing face. In the case of the misshapen monster, we can run away from it. In the case of the banal, everyday form of a health care worker — a doctor who munches on salad like the rest of us – we don’t have that same instinct.
But we should. This business about selling the tissue and organs of aborted babies, and of making sure to maximize their effectiveness and perhaps marketability, is the thing that has finally ripped the veil off of this organization and its real identity.
