Following the Senate’s failed vote to ban the abortion of 20-week-old preborn babies, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) is blasting Senate Democrats for their “obstruction” on the bill.
Black, a former nurse, lamented that “only three Democrats in the Senate could summon the decency to allow debate on a compassionate, fact-based bill to protect innocent, fully formed human beings capable of experiencing pain,” but promised that it “cannot and will not quiet our efforts to defend the unborn.” Eventually, she predicted, the 20-week abortion ban “will right an historic wrong and we will continue to urge its support, both in the halls of Congress and in the hearts and minds of the American people.”
Black then transitioned to a more optimistic note, saying she was “encouraged by the news that the Senate will soon have another opportunity to protect the dignity of life with the consideration of my House-passed legislation: the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015.”
On Friday, the House voted 241 to 187 to pass Black’s bill, which denies the abortion giant federal funding for one year, after which Congress’s investigation into Planned Parenthood’s harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ organs will be complete.
She noted that as a bill that “doesn’t speak to the legality of anyone’s abortion,” it “will be the truest test to date of Democrats’ allegiances.” Voting against it, Black declared, would be “simply indefensible.”
