Hillary Clinton: Keep abortion legal until “very end of the third trimester”

On Sunday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd that she would only support limiting abortions “in the very end of the third trimester,” but only with exceptions for “the life and health of the mother.”

The former First Lady and Secretary of State went on to blame pro-life Republicans for the lack of such laws: “If there is a way to structure some kind of constitutional restrictions that take into account the life of the mother and her health, then I am open to that, but I have yet to see the Republicans willing to actually do that.”

The “very end of the third trimester” is several weeks after preborn babies are able to survive outside the womb, putting Clinton’s position to the left of those who argue for viability to be the legal cutoff.

As Live Action News has previously covered, Clinton had a 100% pro-abortion voting record during her time in the Senate, including her opposition to banning partial-birth abortion and treating the preborn children of pregnant assault or murder victims as separate legal victims.

She has also cited so-called health exceptions as a reason for her positions in the past, but pro-lifers fear that Doe v. Bolton’s definition of health as any “physical, emotional, psychological, (and) familial” impact is so broad as to render any law containing such an exception ineffective.
