Wendy Davis TV “dramedy” series coming to NBC

NBC is developing a television series inspired by former Texas state Senator and failed gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis according to Deadline.

Davis herself will executive produce the combination drama-comedy alongside Jennifer Cecil, the as-yet-untitled show’s writer. It will reportedly follow “a female Democratic senator who, after losing the Texas governor’s race, gets her world turned upside down.”

“In the vein of The Good Wife,” Deadline’s report continues, “while she pieces her pride back together, she goes to work in the law firm of her best friend — a black male Republican — and discovers that with no political future to protect, she can unshackle her inner badass.”

As Live Action News has previously covered, Davis rose to prominence in pro-abortion circles after filibustering a bill to ban late-term abortions, a position in which polling showed 62% of Texans disagreed with her. She eventually lost the governorship to Republican Greg Abbot by twenty points, and lost female Texans by nine.

In response to the announcement, National Review’s Jim Geraghty quipped, “An NBC drama about Wendy Davis? That show will be lucky if it lasts a trimester.”
